Took the pontoon down to a buddies cabin for a campfire and smores and decided to troll on the way back to our cabin. Caught my PB on our lake about a 100 yards from our dock. My previous biggest was 46 inches and this was 48. It hit a gold and black Mepps Maribou bucktail.

Nice fish! Just goes to show you can’t catch fish without your lure in the water right!

Very true. The previous Sunday, I caught a small 34 inch fish in the morning. My wife and daughters drove up separate and headed home at 3:30. I got the green light to take another lap around the lake. This takes about 1.5 – 2 hrs. I was almost back to the dock and I got hit. I got it to the back boat and could tell it was an upper 40 inch fish. I was by myself and as I grabbed for the net, it did a head shake and came unglued. I watched it swim away totally bummed out. There was a good storm on the way and now my PMA was pretty high. I got the go ahead to fish a little longer. Ended up catching another 34 inch fish before calling it a night.

The fish I caught Saturday night was within a 100 yards from the one that got off the week before. It worked out pretty cool. I was able to call my wife and meet her and my daughter (8 yrs old) at the dock for a quick picture. I kept the fish in the net and putted about a 100 yds to the dock.

Thanks AJ. Curious as to what you mean by first legal? The lake our cabin is on has a 40 inch minimum length. I’ve caught a fair amount of fish between 40 and 46 inches. I don’t have any plans to ever keep one. I probably do about 80% of my muskie fishing on the lake our cabin is on. Otherwise I fish the Croix too. So far, I’ve only had 1 fish hit the 50 inch mark.

I thought your lake was relatively small? Thats a serious fish for a small lake. Sweet!

    Mike,
I try to be careful and not refer to the lake our cabin is on as ‘Our’ lake. Some people seem to get offended by that. It is about 320 acres and has some nice muskies.

That’s funny. I’ve have to update that post to include the response/information the DNR provided. It’s a head scratcher.
