lets get some muskie chatter going in this forum!! haha havn’t heard much talk lately so lets hear some stories or anything ppl have2 say. c’mon people lets talk muskies with this warm weather

i’ll start out with the story of the fish that got away…was out fishing alone all day/ well i guess you could say all week! have this lake all figured out just waiting4 the right window…..pick up my buddy richie from the website here and we’re off for the NITE BITE!

HOOKED UP in the dark on a cowgirl right where she should be …but then instantly the weight was gone. btw this was BRAND NEW 832 80lb. that broke on the hookset. luckily richie carries a spot-light and we were able2 see her thrash and MAYBE throw the bait. MAYBE… it was heartbreaking. must have been the biggest fish i have tangled with.

i said my prayers and did my deed of looking and searching for about an hour while wasting PRIME TIME but all in good measures as this was THE FISH of the lake. hope she made it as i never saw her again. maybe this year we will meet again MY DREAM GIRL!

I have herd that story so many times now!

My favorite story from last year was I went out fishing in early fall and I was out by myself because my buddy was out in his boat with another guy.. I was throwing one of my newer pro mag dawgs that I got and I was tossing it as far as I could to just be to the top of the weed line I was throwing. It felt different so I set the hook and cranked in the first muskie of the day. It was just a little guy coming in right around 38 inches. Well after netting the fish I called my buddy who was on the same lake as me to come over and take a picture.. I got the picture taken and I finished out the spot then moved onto a great inside turn connected to deep water much like the last point I was on. It wasn’t 15 minutes later at this spot I had already had 2 follows and set the hook on a second fish. I got it in the net again called my buddy to take another picture. He didnt belive me I finally put together a two fish day. The second fish was a 36 inch fat fall muskie. My buddy didnt believe me at the time but once he came up to my boat he did.

Any one else have a favorite story from last year?

Other than putting a 7/0 through my toe on my one year wedding anniversary and making my mother in law cry because of it? Not really.

My buddy and I were out on a north central MN lake and had the greatest 1.5 hours of Muskie fishing I’ve ever seen first fish was a 52.5″ prehistoric beast followed by a pair of super fat 51″ers all three of them were caught from the same weed pocket. They were also caught by the same guy (not me)! Those 3 fish were caught in a 45min span then my buddies hand went cold and I heated up with a 49.5″ and one that was around 45″. When the sun set it was all over!

I plan on putting my first muskie in the boat this summer, reading all these forums really gave me the itch.

One of my easiest catches last year as a long follow on a bull dawg ripping through shallow weeds and it ate in the first turn of my figure 8 but thats all it did was eat and sat there and was quickly scooped into the net by my buddy with never setting the hook or putting any pressure on the fish.

I almost forgot about the dumbest Muskie I’ve ever caught. 20 min after sun rise I was throwing a top water along some slop weeds and just in front of the boat maybe 20 feet I see a fish just laying on the surface? So I made another cast 5 feet to the side of him prop starts spinning Muskie goes nuts and eats the bait I feel the weight and set the hook it cleared the water 2x then spit the bait! And goes right back to his little slop pile but I can still see him! So I grab a diffrent rod with a dawg on it pitch that to him and he followed that into the first turn and eats but shook the hooks again then goes back to his home. Now I’m thinking this is absolutely the dumbest fish I’ve ever seen so I grab a DCG pitch that to him and as soon as the blades engage DCG is in his mouth! The third feeding attempt did not end well for him and I scooped a 47″ BLIND in BOTH eyes muskie. These fish really are dumb

I have had the urge to start throwing big baits already… When I walk to my mailbox in the morning there is little (VERY LITTLE) pond right behind my mailbox and the sun hits it just right and all I can picture is a big old top raider rippin through the glass… mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Wife and I worked all day & she missed 3. Almost dark, she wanted to try 1 more point. 20 min’s later a 44 in boat. 2 days later she boated a 43 & 65 min’s later I finally got 1, a 45. She got me to re-think 40+ years of musky habits.

I am gonna hit some central Iowa waters in the next couple of weeks because there isnt a season this far south. I havent had any luck getting a follow or anything. My guess is I need to downsize the presentation. I hear about bass tournament guys getting follows and catching some every year. I figure I will run som bass baits and just a bit larger and hopefully this works.

I feel the same way. With all the new gear, including a couple of tranx reels, can’t a guy just go out and throw a few practice casts

we’re heading to Iowa this coming weekend, hopefully we won’t arrive deadsmack in the middle of the spawn.

we’ll probably throw a fair amount of smalller baits, but there’s some new big baits that need to get “tested” for at least a few casts.
