I saw 2 guys shore casting for muskies a few days ago, just wondering if this species is still active with the current weather patterns, thanks.

I would tend to believe that most musky anglers are looking for their quarry now on breaks into the deepest water of the lake. Deep weed edges and hard bottom areas off these breaks and weed edges are where most of natural lakes fish are hanging…

There may be shallow locations available, but IMHO those spots are going to be in the cisco based lakes… That is not to say, that other shallow locations wouldn’t or couldn’t be drawing fish to them. Current areas or warm water discharges that are drawing bait fish (suckers, redhorse, panfish, etc) could get fish shallow. Good luck and let us know how you did…

was a slow day, only excitement was a pike or muskie almost ripping my minnow pole out of its holder into the croix. felt three good thumps before it bit/broke my line off.

Hit a 50 incher on forest today. Trolled points all over and only seen baitfish in one area that was in about 5-6 ft of water with still quit a bit weed cover. It was cool as hell you could just see gold flashes all over in this area, they’d torpedo into pods of bluegills taken them out. Really cool stuff to see. The only ski of the day came on a shallow dog. Also had a respectable 12 lb pike off a MG spinnerbait.
Next weekend will probably my last open water trip of the year.
