Last weekend I was chasing muskies and caught a fat really fat northern. I kept it for a old man that wanted it to eat. when he cleaned it he said it had about a quart of eggs in it. what is with that?

Spring spawners will already have eggs in them by this time of year. Kill a 22″ female walleye right now… same thing. Loaded with eggs. So what your dad found is not unexpected in any way.

Yup. I talked to a DNR biologist about this once. He said there just isn’t enough time in the Spring to develop and ripen eggs so they get started in the Fall and carry them all winter.
