RangerSki, why do you say it would not count because of state shutdown,there is not a time limit to get a fish certified. A fish must be weighed on a certified scale,[like at a meat market if it that big] witnessed,and then taken to a fisheries office to have the species verified and get the offical form to register it.

This is especially true for muskies but other species as well, but with conservation practices of many dedicated anglers, lots of people (including myself) would not kill a fish on the chance it is a state record. Is that a requirement? If so, maybe its time for change on that rule. Obvious hurdles exist with getting a certified weight but I’m sure the MN govt could quickly and skillfully negotiate that obstacle
