Well work kept me from my appointed opportunities this weekend, both for myself and a couple of my better musky fishing friends. I did personally have one at the boat crappie fishing yesterday, but it was low and chasing my poor crappie hard!!! It could have been a a large LMB as easily as a deep musky.

The man I bartend for at this resort guides here and his first client was a flyfishing musky nut. They fished spot and stalk this year compared to last years shallow casting. The first day they had sightings of 12 fish and Rob had one missed op. The next day they had 22 sighting and his client lost his opportunity for a big fish at the boat when it came unbuttoned. How big??? Rob pointed to 50″ fish above us and said very close.

Another friend lost his mind and fished for early bass on one of his favorite lakes and had several follow and two fish on, one of which may have been in the low forties.

Another friend was fishing one of the border lakes and saw 6, converted on two, a 39″ and 29″ fish. His wife managed a 19 3/4″ SMB that was a toad pushing 5#’s.

The new Pro Musky Angler Circuit (Pro MAC, formerly Wisconsin Muskie Tour or WMT) fished just to the north of us yesterday on North and South Twin in Phelps, WI and I am assuming that they picked up some fish in it, but haven’t heard any results as of yet.

That’s what I know from the Northern WI musky opener, how about anyone else???

From what I could tell inside edges, top of weeds that are really just emerging up here and shallow bays or entrances to the spawning areas. Throwing really small stuff, even as small as three to four inch baits…

Fished Yellow and a couple other small lakes in the general area. Weed growth was way behind years past on all three lakes. Four follows, one hooked and missed fish, and saw a bunch of post spawn cruisers that weren’t interested in anything. Was nice to be out huckin’ “real” baits again.

An update on the ProMac tourney from the Twin Lakes of Phelps… Two fish were boated and neither was very big. My friend said they boated one non legal fish and two others up. He also heard that one boat had a huge fish up, but of course she wasn’t ready to eat yet.

The Pro-Mac moves just west of Minocqua this weekend and fishes a two day qualifier on these lakes, Phillips Chain, Pike/Round Chain and Butternut Lake June 4 & 5.

Good stuff Jeremy on your trip to Yellow Lake!!!
