Pulled the auger out and put new gas/oil in it and it starts up and runs fine but when I apply throttle to it, it dies. Auger is less than a year old. Any ideas why this may be happening?
Carb is dirty. Try adding some seafoam in the gas and choke it just enough so it will rev up when the motor is warm and hopefully it cleans itself out after a few times out. If it doesn’t clear up you will need to take it apart and clean it.
I suggest using better oil too. Mojo is right seafoam is awesome stuff. I put it in everything from my ice auger to my truck. Dont need much every tank of gas in the auger gets a little bit. I have the same auger and I use amsoil. I dont know what kind of oil your using but it must not be to good if its gumming up in a year. Theres nothing else that could get in the crab unless the gas you put in it has gunk in it.
I started buying and using the premixed stuff in the quart can it seems to last better than the pump gas oil mix and also has cleaners in it. You can get it in 40:1 and 50:1.
ive had my mako 43 cc for 3 going on 4 years now didn’t have a problem yet with it I never let them sit for more then a couple months without running them for 10 mins just got another eskimo this one is a 51 starts up first pull everytime
Assuming you are using ‘real’ gas?? The only carb that went bad on me, was when I was consistently using ethanol gas in the early 2000’s. Once I realized the issues, I’ve always used non-ethanol gas with no issues. Seafoam, or a very small splash of Berryman B12 can be added to your gas each year…
If using B12, be careful; it is harsh, compared to Seafoam….
Yes I forgot to mention that too always use 91 or better ethanol kills small engines. Especially 2 stroke. I hope its a quick fix nothing wrecks a weekend like having an auger that doesn’t start.
