I’ve owned an Eskimo Shark Z51, original Ion, Ion G2, Strikemaster Lite Flite, Pistol Bit, and the E40. The E40 is without a doubt the best auger I’ve had. I’ve kept the E40 and the Pistol Bit – all I can imagine ever needing.

*I should have included that the E40 I have is the 8″ composite model

Hard to beat an ion. Same manufacturer but I would go Ion if the price doesnt matter.

Thorne Bros has the E40 composite 8″ on sale for $495. Using the code DW2024 gets it down to $396 plus free shipping. To me the price difference makes it an easy decision.

Basically comes down to how many holes you plan on drilling. If you don’t drill a lot, go with the E40.

I have an Ion Alpha Plus still in the box from last season, but I eye up the E40 like the jealous girlfriend meme.

I have had the Strikemaster Lite Flite since it came out and use it with drill combo. I am debating on pulling the trigger on an actual “auger” and the E40 is on top of the list. I have heard the speed isn’t the most desirable feature these newer augers seem to just cut “easier” is what I have been told.

If my current lite flite would work with the strikemast lineup of augers I probably would go that route since then I would have a back up lite flite.

I don’t think you can go wrong with Alpha Plus if money does not matter. Rarely do you see these YouTube guys that are unaffiliated say “Hands down best auger out there is Alpha Plus… not even close” so it must be the best.

Scheels is offering a free second battery with the ion. Pretty slick deal. With two batteries on an 8” thats 4000” of ice.
