    Dean Marshall (Everts Bait-Tackle),
has a huge test area in Pool 4 (Mississippi River), and gets TONS of feedback on tackle everday. His recommendations

After watching my buddy, River Dan, pull in a 50 lb sturgeon on 4 lb fire line crystal, that’s what I use. I also use a 6 lb Berkley Vanish leader for Lindy Riggin.

to help your mono handle better on spinning gear, tie an end of it off on something, walk back a cast length or two and stretch it out. This seems to really help break the line in and keep it from looking like a slinky when you open up the bail

Everyone has a little different opinion and it depends on their fishing style. I don’t have any problem with most lines, but I also have my favored lines. For me, it’s Silverthread Excalibur in the copolymer department. In the braid department, I’m all over the place on that, but most consistently it has been Sufix Performance Braid and I’m liking that new 832 braid as well. I’ve also kind of been a fan of Fireline, not crazy about it, but I make it work for me.

Any good ice line should work in the 4 lb department, but we do not know what your fishing for. Best have your drag set right. I have seen to many people break line because they had there drag set so hard it would never work. I have cought 20 lb northern on 2 lb test but if they get a tooth on that line for get it, no line will work.

Personally I’ll rather invest in a higher quality rod with better line guides to help out with the casting distance or get better lines to begin with. I have used up basically a full can of reel magic. Did not notice any better casting, but merely did believe it did. I also used some KVD L&L and also had a placebo effect on me. Overall, I slip bobber and my coily lines did not benefit from it. Switching up to new fresh line worked. Just my opinion and my results. Maybe I just haven’t found the right line for the line sprays to work on yet.
