I just purchased a “new for me” boat. Triton Tr-196 and looking to put a different bow mount trolling motor on it. I upgraded from a Tr-176 and want to know what shaft length I should go with on the new one? Any advice will be super helpful.

    Thanks in advance

What sort of water do you fish? If you fish big water 52″. I have a 45″ on my zx225 and it is barely enough. A 42″ is too short.

i don’t have experience with this boat but i would say 54 or 60 inch shaft. can’t go too long in my opinion but if u have any question go with the bigger 1

For large waters with big waves a longer shaft motor is better.

If you fish mostly shallow water a shorter shaft motor is better because a super long shaft pulled up half a mile up in the air is real pain to cast and flip around.

I have a 52″ shaft on my champion 18’7″ in boat and its about right in big waves in reaches good in shallow it pulls up and isn’t too high and in the way.definatly go 80# 24volt or you’ll be disappointed Stan

Good choice! I was going to say “as long as possible” but I think you got that covered!

Go at least 80# and 24 volt… Even though the suggestion for not too long is there and has good merit, that boat bow looks like it will keep at least 36″ of 60″ out of the water, so I am thinking that you should go with the 60″ shaft…
