I believe the TowMasters are made in China.

I went to Sam’s Club last night, while they priced me the Towmasters, when I went to get them special-ordered in they said ‘the warehouse’ was out of stock and it could be 10wks to 10months before they’d come in… ?  Made no sense to me.

Have you tried seeing if they can actually get them in, not just price them, Jon?

Sam’s would not take an order over the phone. Sounds like you just saved me a trip.

Tow Master tire are made by Greenball Corp. Thay make tires in the USA and Maylaysia.

The guy I taked to at Sams said the “Guy from the Warehouse” confirmed the TM tires were made in the USA. So, that is what I was going on.

I had a set of 3 put on last fall from GY dealer in town. Did the spare too because I was switching from bias to radial. He had them in stock and were dated from 3 months prior manufacture. I also upped to a 185 size from the 175 for a bit more load capacity. 13″ tires. All mounted and balanced and two old ones mounted for my utility trailer with disposal I think was about $300.

Man, do enough internet searches on trailer tires and you would swear GYM are just as bad as Carlisle!! Or a decent trailer tire does not exist. I suppose this is basic human nature. Get a good set of tires and your hear nothing. Get a set that fails and you tell everyone on the planet that will listen!

Stopped in at the local NTB (National Tire & Battery) store. They stock a brand named Commodore. Could not find anything negative out there on the net. The guys there were pretty confident in these tires and were well aware of the problems with Carlisle and Goodyear. They just don’t get these tires coming back with problems. They pulled out a set for me to look at. (Nice – they actually had a good supply IN STOCK! ) Pretty similar tread pattern that I have now. Date stamp was Oct 2010. Price was less than the Tow Masters and GYM from Tires Plus.

Ya know, I’m going to bite the bullet and hope for the best here. I didn’t get that gut feeling I was being lied to and the guys there were pretty darn helpful. Two tires, mounting, balanced, disposal, tax out the door for $230. (Radial ST 215 75/R14) Compared to Tires Plus Goodyear Marathons at $340 out the door looking like a decent deal.

I guess I run them and give a review at the end of the year. Of course, If I blow one, everyone on the planet will know about it!!!

I think an earlier comment made needs to be heeded by every one regardless of brand of tire.“proper inflation”, and like the fella mentioned earlier, I too, go 5 to 10 over>cold tested!
Also, “SPEED” , what your speed. Most all of these are rated @65, a steady diet of over 70 and any of these brands will give it up!

In your research on tires, has anyone found somebody that still carried Marathons in a 215/75 size? It appears they discontinued these.

Also, I was thinking about trying the 225/75 size as it is a load class D which would be much preferred. The question is will they fit? If not, I may be switching brands also.

Are the Towmasters mentioned a load class D?

    Hi Justin,

I ended up going with the Goodyear Marathons, size 215/75 from Sams Club. They are the ‘made in china’ ones so we’ll see how they hold up…

The towmasters that I looked into were still a class C tire.

good luck Pete-can’t wait to fish out of the new rig!
good advice Jon, seems no matter what tire you run, if things are not lined up, or bent, tire problems can happen in short order.
