I will be switching to a Terrova 80# and I will be putting on a mount to make it removable. There are different mounts out there what has worked for you. Have heard some complaints about some of the mounts being noisy when kicking the trolling motor on and off.

Get the quick release bracket for Power drive and terrova motors. The less expensive ones don’t lock in. The cam lock release one fits into a tapered grove so it stays tight and doesn’t rattle and clunk. Pricey but well worth doing it right the first time. Don’t ask me why I know.
    Good luck

I got mine from Wade at Jolly Ann marine. No sales tax and free shipping. Will be cheaper than any store without the sales tax and I would bet you would have it in a few days

Here’s the one I’m using on my boat. Been pretty decent thus far.

I’m using the same mount as brian, works perfect, never heard a squeak or rattle. Minimal space taken if removed, nothing sharp.

IMO they’re a waste of money and one more peice of hardware waiting to fail. Had one on my current boat for the first 7 years and never once took the motor off. When I put my new Terrova on I mounted direct to the deck and will never mount on a “bracket” again. I have a new boat on order and the 101 will be screwed to the deck.

I was thinking about going to the quick release mount is for the way my boat cover fits. The trolling motor sits out in the open. Trailering in the winter with the dirt, road salts and electronics in the head may equal It is either the mount or have my cover redone. It is about a horse apeice on cost.

    I agree with Tom.
After spending 1200.00 on a terrova, taking if off while trailering in the winter makes sense to me.

I use one as well and take off and on is easy and noise free. I also use a smaller master lock on the opposite side for a piece of mind as well.

    I’ve got one of these:

We have one on my M-I-L’s boat, and it is a bit noisy when you’re on and off the pedal. I put the same mount on my boat and I haven’t had any noise issues at all.

I like to take my Terrova off when I’m on the river at night because my boat’s a tiller, and it’s easier to see without it on there (both because it is in the way and the spotlight reflects off of it). Also, even with elevated nav lights, I think they are more visible without it on there.

I also have a small padlock on it.

    X3.

I carry two Bow Mount motors at all times. When I’m guiding, I simply can’t afford to be without a bow mount. My bow mounts have been on and off for various reasons more times than I care to admit. Removing it as many times as I have would have been ridicules without a quick release mount.

I have the exact same model as Ralph does above. If you keep the 1/4-20 locking bolt tightend down, it doesn’t make any noise at all. That bolt screws into the side of the quick release bracket putting pressure on the sliding base plate under the bow mount trolling motor.

Use a little lock tight on all the other bolts to keep them tight as well.

There is also the unfortunate fact that trolling motors do break, a quick release is nice for that. Also as my kids get older, I’m willing to bet there is a fair bit of swimming that’s going to happen around our boat, might as well take the motor off, and the mount I use doesn’t have any sharp edges so you wouldn’t have anything to worry about after removing the motor and it only leaves a 5×4 inch plastic puck on the boat.

My boat didn’t come with the Terrova, I retrofitted it, and my cover doesn’t currently fit with the trolling motor either. So to cover my boat and trailer, (which I only do in winter or wicked rain when trailering).

I can also remove the motor for boat storage, so I don’t have to worry about some low life stealing it.

$50-$100 for the convenience is well worth it IMHO.

But I’ll give you it’s not a need.

Looks like the one I have, motors been off twice for repairs (AP) and it comes off in the winter or if I’m staying overnight somewhere that’s not secure.

Also the travel trailer was made a few inches short so I can move the unit back a few inches while traveling with the cover on.

I have a padlock on mine also.

The one I posted is a little sharp on the edge. If I had more of a dual-purpose boat, like Nick, I would definitely got with the mount he posted.

Thanks for all the input…I`ll probably go with the MK21.
