I’m going to try to. Ive got two boats on my hands right now and getting things in order and ready for the new boat. Ive also got some work to do on the RV. If I dont get out on the ice, we should meet up in April in Isle Bay. As you know, It can be a “one after another” bite.

Gary,
What was the guy’s name at St Croix? I bought my house from St Croix’s North American Sales Manager. I bet he would love to hear that their customer service people are telling customers that a Premier doesn’t measure up to an IM6 rod by any other manufacturer!
He lives just outside of Hudson. PM me and I can give you his e-mail address.
The Avid rod has got to have sensitivity than a GM IM6 rod. Just has to. You’re not paying $120.00 more per rod for just better guides!March 12, 2004 at 9:27 pm #296516One thing to consider, IM ratings on rods can be misleading. Rod manufactures use this rating as a marketing tool. IM8 is better or more sensitive than an IM6 right? What you need to look and what can be almost impossible to determine is the grade of the graphite used or if the blank is carbon. Then you need to compare components, handles, reel seats, warranties and where the rod was manufactured.
Quality components like the components St.Croix uses can increase the price of the rod very quickly. As well as the grade of the blank. What I think the St.Croix rep was trying to explain was that the Premier series is a lower end grade blank which it is to St.Croix standards compared to the Avid line of blanks. But this also means the Premier blank has much more quality over the mass produced over seas type blanks. Ive used and owned Premiers for years. I remember when they were $40 new. I still use them and have never had a problem with them and they go through alot of abuse.
March 12, 2004 at 10:11 pm #296523I do find it very odd what the rep told you. You would have thought they would have followed that with an explanation of WHY St. Croixs are better than a 30 dolar rod. I have a premier spinning rod, and had an Avid baitcaster I got rid of. I would say the Premier has just as much sensitivity as my IM8 Bass Pro rod, and has a more quality taper.
I’m more of a Falcon guy myself, especially for baitcasting rods and the Cara series. I do like St. Croix Spinning rods though.
