Vexilar FL-18 as a Bow Mount Locator?

I’ve been thinking about swtiching out my Lowrance X-51 used on my bow mount trolling motor and using my FL-18 Vex. unit. Way too much interference. Anyone using the FL-18 upfront? I understand that a suppressor is needed to knock down the signal in shallow or weedy water. Before I mount the puck transducer, I’d like to know if anyone has problems or luck using the FL-18 this way. Thanks Dave C.

The FL-18 works excellent on the bow. You wont need the s-cable on the Fl-18. Its built in. Just use it on LP mode. Where are you getting interference from? Are you running your x51 on the same battery as your trolling motor?

I agree with Derek. I got mine up front and is great when you are poking around on rock piles. Gotta run it in LP tho for shallow water. Your FL-18 also has the suppressor. Push the on/ off button till it clears. Sometimes (according to the manual) other units in proxcimity to the unit can cause interferance. I haven’t had to much trouble with it. I run both units most of the time

Thanks for the input. Actually the interference has been on the X-15. The X-15 on the dash goes to depth readings like 995ft when I’m using the X-51 upfront. I’ve tried w/o the trolling motor running and with out. The only way to clear the X-15 is turn it off and back on. I need to check what battery the locators are using. Right now I have a 24volt system with the MK65PD. I have talked with Lowrance and even after an upgrade chip sent to me, I have the same problems. Their only suggestion was to run just one unit at a time. I know I’ve talked with a couple other guys who run 2 units all the time with no problems. I have to be doing something wrong. thanks for any help. Dave C.

Coffee……..I think the problem you have is that, both locators are running at the same frequency. Hook and I run two LMS-350A in a 20ft tiller. One is located in the back and the other up front for the bow mount. Both units run at the same freq. but sence they are 20 feet apart they do work without and interference…..The distance between units is the problem I think
