    November 13, 2010 – Saturday – Rod Builders Workshop
    9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Wickiup Hill
Come and learn about rod building with many masters of the craft from throughout the Midwest. We are arranging a variety of topics to be covered including: Scott Kleppe speaking on Eva handles with inserts, Doug Nauman on why spine a blank, Bob Hasbrook will cover how to build checkers for handle accents, Paul Rohrbacher is offering a bit on reamers he has developed for wood handles, Sam Fox is going to present on refurbishing bamboo rods, Mike Sledden will speak on using microguides, Chuck Ungs will offer a presentation on elementary rod building with a bit on my insights into holding rodbuilding courses and instructing them, Steve Cox will offer a presentation on giving a facelift to older rods he calls “Lipstick on a Pig” to increase their performance, a local woodworker – Dick Mullin – will give a presentation on sharpening lathe tools and the folks from Midwest Rod and Reel may say a few words – stay tuned as the agenda continues to fill. The folks from Midwest will also take pre-orders for a discount or bring down items you may wish to view – contact them for additional details at http://www.midwestrodandreel.com/ .

The meeting is free to anyone interested in rod building from beginners to professional and all will leave with new knowledge to produce custom fishing rods after a day of camaraderie and networking with fellow builders. We will take a donation to cover food expenses. We will draw for a number of door prizes during the day. Mudhole even supplied a few blanks for us to give out for prizes. For more information or directions, please contact Chuck at 892-6485.

For more information or to RSVP so we can plan an appropriate amount of food please contact Chuck at (319) 892-6485 or at [email protected] .

For those who have built custom rods before – please bring a few along to display your work, we’ll have racks set up to display all the works of art – it is always a learning experience to see what other folks have designed. Last year we had visitors here from 5 or 6 states. Hope to see you there.
