Brian, you probably do not need a chip for your home waters. You mark the spots in your GPS or use the GPS in combination with a paper map. For fishing Winni, an electronic map would probably be nice to have. If you want to be able to pick out a piece of structure on the map, point the boat and go, these electronic maps are a good way to go. My thinking, specifically addressing YOUR situation, run the LMS 480M bare naked (poor choice of words considering…) for a while and see what you think. If the basemap seems sub par on Winni, dig into the ‘ol pocket book and get yourself a Navionics data card.
For guys who fish a few or more different lakes, for guys who are involved in tourneys, for guys who want to point the boat and go, or for guys who really like fishing toys, these Navionics maps are the cat’s meow.
I’m getting the #10 Hotmaps data card this year to use on Ottertail, Mille Lacs, Okoboji, and Spirit Lake. I want to be able to point the boat and go. I don’t want to spend fishing time trying to find the structure. I prefer to spend fishing time fishing!
