Navionics is interested in knowing what lakes you’d like to see added to the HotMaps data cards in the future. If your favorite lake is not listed on the Navionics HotMaps Lake List and you want to have your voice heard, post your lake here.

Please post in this format ONLY:

    Lake name, county, state.

All properly posted request will be forwarded to Jeff Brodeur at Navionics. Navionics already has developed a priority list for future lakes to be included, however, if enough people request a certain lake it may move higher on the prioroity list if it is feasible.

So fire away if you’re interested. Again, LAKE NAME, COUNTY, STATE format only PLEASE.

Well hey, Jeff. This is an unexpected surprise. Glad to see we have folks from waaaayyy out east taking a peek at IDA from time to time. I was going to forward all of this info to you but I won’t have to do that now.

I might be getting a little ahead of myself but would it be okay if we invited members to post any Navionics questions here for you???

By the way everyone, if you all haven’t figure it out yet, this is Jeff from Navionics. Heck of a nice guy and a true fisherman first! So what do ya say Jeff, can we open it up to questions?

Welcome Jeff. First question, are you related to Martin Had to ask..

Does Nav have any plans to make a 1 foot chip of Mille lacs for the Garmin units?

    Thanks

    Hey Derek,

No relation…but I hear he is a lousy angler anyway. He has his sport I have mine.

Ahhhh…Garmin. We used to do their Cartography but there is no relation now. I’m surprised they havent released any of the ReelBottom 1′ product yet. It is absolutely mindblowing the level of detail on these charts-the guys at ReelBottom are truly “artists” when it comes to lake surveys!

We have been producing these 1′ electronic charts since last August. Our 3′ Pro-map charts have been out the same ammount of time.

Wait till you see what we have up our flannel sleeves next!

Nice to be the leaders rather than the followers!

I had heard that Garmin was having a hard time loading the 1 foot into their units.

Last year we just had Lowrance and the Reelbottom MMC data cards. With so many new items out this year, can you explain to our readers what Pro Map,Gold, Silver etc is? Its getting to be a bit confusing.

How much difference in detail is there from the 3 foot to the 1 foot maps?

Is there a time frame when we can expect new products from Nav?

    Thanks

It is confusing…the saving grace being that they are all phenomenal products and once you have a unit, it is pretty easy to figure out what you need.

We have two “formats” for our charts, Classic and Gold.

Classic shows on the water detail in all one color (blue in a color unit. gray in a B&W unit) and is the product we have producted up until last year. Still current and a very good product. Best product for Black and White plotters.

Gold is new and shows different water depths in different colors (dark blue=shallowest, light blue=shallow, white=deeper/safe water). These “shaded contours” are user adjustable. Obvious advantages; quickly identify structure (shoals/holes), know with a quick glance if you have safe water for passage, work a certain depth while trolling. Gold also has an improved user interface that simplifies on screen identification of many objects. Obviously, Gold is best suited for use in color plotters.

HotMaps+ is currently available in 2 versions, both only available in Classic (one color) today. The ProMap version has 21 MN lakes displayed in 3′ contour breaks. The ReelBottom version has 4 MN lakes in 1′ contours. These are the products of choice for touring professionals and guides.

Look for an updated Gold Version of HotMaps+ in the near future.

    Jeff,

I have both the Pro Map chip and the Reel Bottom chip for my x-15 and love them. I don’t think there is anything better. I bought the Pro Map chip for my wife as she had a tournament on one of the lakes and proceded to win the tournament by being better able to fish a small weed point. A big thanks from both of us.

I was curious if you were going to be including the Reelbottom info for Lake Minnetonka on a chip anytime soon? i do a lot of tournaments and guiding there, and would love that chip.

    Mike,

Its the “goodies” isn’t it?? Glad it has served your and your wife’s needs well! Bet theres a bunch of guys and gals that would like to have Minnetonka in the HotMap+ level of detail, yup…pretty important lake…

Don’t know if I can spill the beans on it just yet . Lets just say that we know how much everyone wants it! And a bunch of other lakes…

    Jeff,
I just had an X15MT mounted on my Ranger. I am fishing the MN RCL league events and I am wondering which chip is going to be the best one for me to purchase to give me the best detail for Big Stone Lake, Mille Lacs and Leech lakes??
I glanced at the Navionics MN package at Gander priced at $129 and that chip has an extensive list of lakes. Is that a 1′ or 3′ depth accuracy chip?
Thanks in advance for your feedback.

    Buckshot,

I will let Jeff answer his directed question however, from my experience the Mille Lacs Reelbottom detail is the best I have seen out there in MMC cards. This version is the 1 foot contours and has extra detail that most whiffer maps can not reproduce. They did their homework with that map(s). I would imagine Leech Lake would be same results as well!
I love not having to read a paper map at 60mph!!

Since the whole chip thing is new to me any advice would be greatly appreciated. I did call and talk to LakeMaster today and got some info on the LakeMaster chips.
In talking to them it sounded like the Walker Bay area of Leech wouldn’t show up as well on an X-15 as the the main lake would because of the sharp drops in Walker bay…they made it sound like it would just look like a black line since the 1′ lines would be so close together.

    Steve and Derek…
Do you guys run X15s or the newer color units???
    Thanks

Thats because the zoom is limited on the Lowrance units v.s the Garmin units. The Garmin units will zoom down to 20 feet v.s 350 feet on the Lowrance. I mainly fish lake Mille lacs which doesn’t have those types of very sharp break lines so zooming down to 350 feet is fine for me. I plan on running two Lowrance Global Map 4800’s this year.

I was still using the LMS-350a with a Garmin handheld. Most of my tourneys last year were in my partners boat with an x-15 and the Nav chip which works and looks great. The same set up Steve is using.

Hey guys! This looks like a good place to get some answers to someone that doesn’t want to do a bunch of reaserching…it’s been a long week!

I fish mostly the lower croix and Winni. I can see…(I think) how a card would help me on Winni, but I’m struggleing with what one would do for me on waters I’m more framilar with…like the Croix.

If you’ve used one before and can say I wouldn’t use my gps without one…let me know to whom I should make the ckeck out to…. and how much.
