LED trailer Lights

I used an Optronics kit ion my Shorelander (TLL-16RK – Waterproof Over 80″ Low Profile LED Trailer Light Kit).
I also replaced the marker lights with LEDs as well.

I completely changed my boat trailer over to FF LED brand and they work great! Definitely worth it. No more burned bulbs, no burned fuses, so far so good. I have 2 years on it now.

I love my LED trailer lights, but I also killed my first set due to corrosion. When I replaced that first set I bought the same lights from FFarm but opened them up and smeared silicone on the connections prior to installation. So far it seems like that was a good idea.

I switched after burning out a couple of bulbs. I installed the Optronics brand and love them

LEDs are the way to go. I too used the Optronix kit but the lasted 1 trip up north due to a parking lot mishap. Of course I was not there and no one left an note. I replaced the 2nd time with some steel boxes that bolt right on to the light mount holes. LEDs are recessed so note as much chance of damage. Ordered online through EBAY $69 for rear lights and boxes. Can of black spray paint and a few bolts and washers and you are set to go.

Well, it’s clearly a no-brainer to make the switch. Thanks for all the feedback, fellas. Going to get them ordered, and wait for a nasty Saturday to change out the wiring and the lights.

I’ll second that. Just completely redid mine two weeks ago (after an incident with a submerged log at the launch). They are the bees knees.

Do yourself a favor and run a ground wire to each light.

FWIW there are a couple threads on here with wiring tips too, I personally ran outdoor extention cord for my wiring down the length of the trailer and connected the lights right there at the lights, making sure I had enough spare wire for the future if I wanted to clean up some connections, I figure the outdoor extention cord will be good forever in the rails, and I’ll not have to worry about shorts.

I ran grounds at all lights, and at the hitch to the trailer. cleaned the trailer with a dremel and steel brush for a nice tight clean connection.

I did the same after reading your previous posts. Why, though, did you bother connecting the ground to the trailer? A ground wire from each light connected to the white wire on the plug completes the circuit with no need to connect anything to the trailer frame.

I’m talking about the white wire at the plug, I actually connected that to the trailer, most trailers I’ve had didn’t have them hooked up, because otherwise I was grounding through the hitch, and that was sometimes a bit inconsistant, I figured it out after I was all proud of my work, backed the truck up to the trailer, plugged it in and….. nothing… I didn’t actually put it on the hitch, so it wasn’t working at all, took me a good 10 minutes to figure out my problem.

That’s nearing 6 years ago now, so don’t hold me to being perfectly accurate, but I do believe it was something like this.

Haven’t gotten around to the upgrading yet, but lots of great tips here and on the wiring threads. Gonna be an expert after I get this little job done (I hope!).

Well,been busy fishing, and the old trailer lights/wiring have not been acting up, so put the project on the back burner. I bought the wiring harness and have been looking at various LED trailer lights, including some at a Shorelander parts dealer, which are the exact same size as the lights on my trailer, but cost 40 bucks each. Now I’m trying to find the manufacturer of those particular lights for an exact fit, but so far, no luck. Anyone know who makes the lights for Shorelander?
