24 Volt Terrova

So the other day I had the bright idea of putting an old 400 Series Hummingbird on the bow of my 1750 Crestliner Sportfish. I have never had a graf up front and have been wanting to do this for some time. Well after seeing how others have theirs mounted with the cords exposed and personally being in two boats when they have got theirs caught and broke, I started to kick the idea around of mounting the transducer in the back by the Lowrance.

I spoke with several people about this and some stated that there would be no interference problems and others thought that there would.

So after wasting lots of time and energy, I decided to buy a new 24-volt Terrova 24 volt,80 lbs with the I-Pilot and have someone who knows what they are doing install the Hummingbird upfront and hook into the new trolling motor.

I am wondering if the I-Pilot is worth the money or not ( HAVING SOME SECOND THOUGHTS NOW) Looking to see what others think about it.

So is the I-Pilot worth the extra money??

Can’t remember exactly the “rule” but I think the transducers would have to be different frequencies around 25-50hz (50 I think) or so before they wouldn’t really interfere. Eitherway with 2 lowrance’s on my boat 18′ apart I get interference in anything more then 10′ of water, but nothing I can’t live with nor manage, Usually I turn the one on the console off. (passengers don’t need such fancy things ) Hopefully you went with the universal sonar too, IMHO now better way to go.

Haven’t had a chance to play with an Ipilot yet, but they sure sounds great, concept wise (haven’t paid any real attention to reviews) Personally I have a hard time not having autopilot, I use the auto pilot option 99% of the time, probably the biggest reason I went to a terrova versus a maxxum.

Not that I would advocate to drinking to excess , but If a guy needed to sleep in the bottom of the boat, he/she could record a trail and the other two people could continue to fish. I have saved weight and space of not using an anchor anymore.

Have had the I-pilot for a few months now and don’t know how I got by without it.

I put on a Terrova 80 with iPilot this spring. It has literally changed the way I fish. The anchor rarely see the light of day and I am able to operate the motor from anywhere in my boat. No more being forced to sit up front to run the troller. That seat is for guests now and I get the entire back of the boat. Get it you will not be disappointed.

I’ve told everyone about my Terrova with I-Pilot and a few friends went out and bought them too. They are as giddy as I am with this item. Easily the best “fishing” toy I’ve ever bought.

Last month we were fishing at Clearwater lake and the water was spilling over the spillway into a shallow canal. 2 boats were anchored in front of it nose into the current casting over the spillway catching panfish right and left. I pulled up next to them, innitialized the spot lock feature and watched their jaws drop as my Terrova kept me within 8 feet of the concrete spillway. One guy even aske me where my anchor was, I just pointed to my I-Pilot. It just ain’t fair!

My son is a bass freak and we went smallie fishing on a rockpile in 12 ft of water. An anchor would easily spook anything down there, but the Terrova sat us right over the pile and we caught dozens off that one spot. My son was running the motor with the foot pedal to position us, then I’d hit the anchor button on the remote to lock us in place. He could then fish with no regard for wind, waves or current. Again, it ain’t fair.

Use the spotlock once and your 2nd thoughts will go away. Hopefully your unit will work the the universal sonar. I held out until I ran one, then within one week had one on my boat (had a gun on hand that had to it the road).

Im with everyone else here, I also have the Terrova with Ipilot, Best thing I ever bought. Walleye fishing the Spotlock is amazing. For example this spring on the miss I could just sit on one current seam and vertically jig and get my limit while everyone around me was fighting the current and wind. Truly Makes it hands free fishing! The being able to fish out of the back of the boat on wingdams controlling the motor from anywhere in the boat is amazing.

Now join the Ipilot with HDS and Structure scan and your way ahead of the game. For example, I see a big rock pile, Mark the corners of it. Switch to split screen with Graph, Zoom in, Get inside my waypoints, Hit the spotlock and wam! Im right over the rocks!

Crappie fishing, I record the track, tell it what speed I want to stay and Im done. I just troll for crappies and never think about boat control again. Once you get good at the remote, you will probably just remove the pedal from the boat!

On a side note, make sure to have a 50 amp shortstop manual set fuse installed. Also, clean all the battery connections-will help the motor not draw as many amps due to corrosion. That motor calls for a 60 amp fuse, but most feel that 50 amp is enough.

Absolutely dugout – I mo longer use the foot pedal cuz the remote is more powerful once you get used to it. The cruise control is wonderful while trolling into the wind as gusts and crosswinds are no longer a problem.

that is if you don’t get a brand new i pilot remote with
1 bar left on the battery. used the footpetal for the first
trip , never had ap before it was nice , think I’ll just buy a battery rather than try and hastle with cabelas for a new one.

    One bar is normal.

    No need to return.

    don’t see it?

    Fr equently Asked Questi ons
    Q. Does i-Pilot record the speed I am traveling when recording .
    a track?
    A. N o. i-Pilot only records its location during track record. It is up to the
user to set the desired speed manually or with Cruise Control.
    Q. Why doesn’t my GPS Signal Strength icon always show all .
    four bars?
    A. GPS signal strength is impacted by many influences including:
i-Pilot controller having a clear view of the sky (especially to the
southern sky), boat being located alongside a high bank and your
    geographic location.
    Q. Is i-Pilot compatible with CoPilot?
    A. N o. None of the components between the two systems are
    compatible with each other.
    Q. Does the remote float?
    A. Yes.
    Q. How long of a track can I record?
    A. E ach individual track location (A, B or C) can be up to two miles
    in length.
    Q. Can I use multiple remotes with my i-Pilot?
    A. Yes, you can use an unlimited number of remotes simultaneously.
Remember to learn each new remote to the i-Pilot controller.
    Q. Why does the LCD screen of the remote have dark blotches on it
    when I wear my sunglasses?
    A. Polarized sunglasses can dramatically affect the way an LCD looks to
    the human eye.

Think I am getting my Terrova tomorrow from my good friend Sharkbait, and will have the iPilot on it by next year.

I’ve run Garver’s enough in his boat to know they are an absolute necessity.
