Optimax oil filter?

I have a 2008 115hp Optimax that I love dearly and maintain religiously. But the owner manual
says there’s an oil filter that must be changed yearly by an authorized service technician. I admit
I haven’t been able to find where that is and I haven’t had that filter serviced since I do all my own
winterizing and changing of filters, plugs, etc.
Does anyone know where that oil filter is located, and if it’s truly something I shouldn’t be
replacing myself? That’s the only maintanence item they clearly specify must be done by a
factory tech so I tend to believe I shouldn’t do it.

Interesting. Are you sure it’s an oil filter and not a fuel filter? Since its a oil injection I’ve never seen an Optimax utilizing an oil filter but I could be wrong. I did change the fuel filter on my 250 Pro XS this year and it was simple with the right wrench to remove it. If its truly an oil filter i would imagine its an inline oil filter and this might be cheap insurance to have a tech change it since its most likely located between the engine oil tank and the injection pump and can cause problems if not done properly.

I can’t say for merc for sure, but my Johnson, apparently had an oil filter in/on the oil res. I suspect on the pickup or something.

I did a little digging and I’m guessing the answer is “Depends”. Probably by year of motor.

In this link, the schematic shows a filter screen in the oil pick up tube. (#2)

In this link, scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and read the post from bluewaterpilot. He talks about an in-line filter. (with pics)

I looked at my 2003 150 Opti and did not find any in-line filter. I had the screen in the oil tank that checked out clean last night.

    Good Luck,

Yep, I’m sure it says oil filter. But I can’t figure where it is. I guess
maybe that’s why they say to have an authorized tech replace it.
