    What’s the chain for? I’ve heard about using it…but never really figured out why. For abraision resistance on larger boats?

    Chains reduce “pick up” or lift which help keep the anchor secured firmly in the bottom content. They are less likely to break from wear like the rope might if it’s secured directly to the anchor. Most chains are covered in molded plastic/rubber to prevent them from scratching up your boat.
