I’m looking for information about where might be a good walleye lake/trailer campsite in Wisconsin in July? I live in Missouri and my brother and I kicked around going to Wisconsin and do some fishing and camping. I appreciate any info/suggestions. Just looking for some good places to go since I’ve never been there. Thanks

If it’s early in July, I’d say Winnebago. Later in the month Door County (Green Bay) gets the nod.

Thanks Lt, I’ll look into those, it will probably be later in July, 2nd week or so. Are there any places in particular that you would recommend in Door County?

Here you go… Door County Camping There are some other places to go in Brown county just to the south of Sturgeon Bay… I think one Powatamie State Park just on the south side of the Sturgeon Bay Shipping Canal. Also there are probably some decent campgrounds on the west side of the bay as well.

I probably misspelled all of this; in too big a hurry Potowatamie State Park

    Mark is correct.
IMO– Sturgeon Bay area would make a great “home base”. Excellent boat launch right in town. Trolling along the shipping canal for walleyes. Trophy Smallmouth throughout the bay. Bonus Pike to about 20#. A little bit of everything. Have fun!

    Don’t rule out Lake Pepin

But Green Bay is a good bet also

I thought of Pepin too but Green Bay sure has been telling a lot of good stories the last couple years. Also check out and inquire in the Wisconsin/Hayward forum. Tanner Wildes is the new reporting guide with lots of info lately. I’m sure he would help you out. The site owner was just there with him for filming so that says something about the fishing around there. Good luck. There is no wrong choice.

I’m heading back out the first week in July to fish with Tanner. He has a couple lakes near Hayward that produce some incredible walleyes. 22” – 26” average with a legit shot at bigger fish up to 30”. Green Bay is a fantastic fishery but if you get the wrong wind, depending on where you’re at, you can be grounded for a couple days. That happened to me last fall. We drove the 9 hours and watched 5’ – 9’ waves roll into shore for 48 hours. The lakes we’ll be fishing up near Hayward are in the 3500 – 5000 acre size so the wind can blow and we’ll still be able to fish. Plus the area is gorgeous with dozens of lakes within a short drive and a variety of species to chase… smallmouth, muskies, panfish and perch are all available.

    Just something else to consider.

Tough to argue with James’s logic. Lac Court Oreilles, Grindstone and Chippewa Flowage would be tough to beat with plenty of local entertainment to see and do if the weather does not cooperate for a few days….Good luck you have many choices
