tiller boat….driver seat screws into the floor with 6 screws, there is no hole into the floor for the pedastal base, it fits right into the seat base….I’m considering moving the seat base 4 – 6 inches more to the center of the floor just for more comfort while steering. I don’t think there will be any structural weakness done to the floor from adding a few more holes, do you forsee any problems with my idea? or am I better off keeping it where it is? I am ok as it sits now, just thinking it may be better more centered. thanks

it’s a lund proguide, there isn’t a gas tank underneath, the base only has screws, the hole for the pedastal base stops at the floor, there is no big hole needed through the floor at all….I’m curious to know if I can do this without any porblems to the floor except more screw holes

Looking at your avatar.. I wouldn’t worry about it….

JK… I moved mine, not a tiller, but the same base set-up… wasn’t a problem

Do you think it is possible there is a metal plate under the floor that the screws are holding onto? Only asking because when the floor was replaced in my boat there were.

After having my Lund for 8 years, I have to say that the tiller driver’s seat placement is my only complaint. It would be better moved about 6 inches to center like yours but then we’d be getting mighty close to my fuel tank. I was told Lund might void the floor warranty if the seat was moved so I left it alone and purchased a 10 inch extension for the tiller handle. Worked out pretty good for me.

I put a new floor in my dad’s aluminum 17′ boat a few years ago. there was a tin with the 6 holes under the wood for each seat. I suppose it helps prevent the bolt and nuts from pulling through if the floor gets saugy and weathered after years and years. the tin is only the size of the base. good luck drifter. hope that helps

Is there any way you can reach under there to check if there is a metal plate? (hollow under there where your bilge pump is maybe?

ALSO: I would re-seal the old holes with marine goop and also put some where you make the new holes to keep most of the water from getting in. Good luck
