Minnkota Foot Pedal

I have a Minnkota Terrova and when I connected the foot pedal this spring I noticed that I was unable to turn starboard using the heel of the pedal. The toe of the pedal and both right and left arrow switches work fine, but if I try the heel…. nothing. So I stood on it and it did turn starboard, but only for a moment. My question: Is there a set of contacts I can clean or replace to make the pedal work like new again? It’s only 3 years old and I just added the I-Pilot to it so I don’t NEED the pedal. I just want it to be right. Any ideas? Or just take it in to be fixed?

I have not taken a close look at the foot pedal of the Terrovas yet, but I would make a bet that there’s a set of contacts in there that need cleaning, just like you said. I doubt that pedal comes apart as easily as the older PowerDrive motors, but if it does, I’d get in there and clean ‘er up. Sure can’t hurt anything.

If it is anything like the power drives the contacts are sealed membrane switches. I just fixed my power drive pedal, the wire was broken 3 inches from the pedal. Re soldered and its as good as new.

Yes they are. I forgot about that.
That being said, when I ‘cleaned’ the contacts, what I really did was give all the surfaces a good cleaning with alcohol. There’s a sliding mechanism that gets dirty and doesn’t get the contact areas pushed down all the way, which makes it not steer one way or the other. Might see if that’s the deal with this pedal and hopefully it’ll get back on track.

my terrova was getting real hard to turn right with the heel/toe pedal. i took it apart to clean it. there are tiny magnets under the pedal that energize the sealed switches inside of the main switch. cleaning it did nothing. i dont know what else to try.
