115 Yammi noise

115 Yammi four stroke has a “zing zing” sound when I come off of idle into a fast idle. The sound stops when I increase RPMs and is very intermediate; only at low engine RPMs. My guess is it is coming from the belt or the idler pulley? Any ideas?

Also on the same motor is there an adjustment to tighten up the throttle a bit, would like it to hold mid range and not just wide open. Currently if I am cruising half speed I have to keep a grip on the handle. Makes it interesting to zoom in and out on the finder, I have to either let go of the throttle or wheel.

    Thanks

It sounds similar to what my F250 would do sometimes. If you are in your boat looking back at the motor look down below the hood and see if there is a little open spot where you can look in and see the shaft turning when in gear. There is a bushing or bearing there that gets dry sometimes and will make a squeeling sort of sound.A shot of wd 40 should take care of it.

Im not very familiar with tiller handles but just a guess is there a screw to tighten on the end inside the handle.Thats where it is on some of the kicker motors. If I remember right its a philips screw.

Its a counsel unit, no tiller. Sad thing about this is I just had it in for this noise and of course they found lots of other stuff wrong but never fixed the noise!

Between my truck and boat and I’m getting real tired of repair shops not up to par…joys of living up north I guess.

Jonny, I have a 90 yami tiller and my motor does the same thing. I was told that there is a bushing that needs to be honed out. The lower unit needs to be pulled to get to the bushing. Not an easy fix. Dealer told me it’s not hurting anything it’s just annoying as h#ll!

If it is that bushing just give it a shot of wd 40.Mine made noise once in a while and it was brand new.No need to tear it apart.

…and this is what I found; the bearing in the idler pulley for the belt is getting dry. I drilled a tiny hole in the plastic seal of the bearing and injected some grease with a syringe and needle. It stopped the noise for now so I ordered a replacement, kind of glad I looked into it as that could have been a bad breakdown on the lake.

As for the throttle control I found a single flat head screw recessed into the black molding of the handle where it meets the panel. Tighten it up the handle got harder to move and losedned it up it got easier, figure that must be the one.
