My ’92 Shorelander trailer came equipped with P 155-80-13 tires. (Yeah I’m now just replacing the original tires, usually just short trips in and out of the lake at the cabin). I guess they are bias belted passenger car tires. I went to Fleet Farm and Discount Tire and they only had standard passenger car tires with a max weight rating of 800lbs. The smallest trailer tire size they had was 175-80-13 about 1 1/2″ taller and 3/4″ wider then what I had so I had them mount them. I’ve got the wheels home now and there is not a lot of clearance between the tire and the top of the fender.

    Anyone else have this problem?

I’d like to be able to take it on longer trips so I think the standard car tires are not an option.

    Any ideas?

i got new tires last year from fleet farm and they gave me the wrong size. when i put the correct ones on they looked too close to the frame and fender but have had no problems and i travel a lot so maybe trial and error

Ive got an 01 shorelander and 175/80R13’s are what come standard on them. I just replaced the with some carlysle(spelling?) tires from fleet farm.

I’m not 100% on this but as long as they dont rub on the fenders when you lift them and free spin them then they never should. The fenders and the tires should all move as one unit. Like I said I don’t know for sure…but it makes sense to me.

What size boat and trailer are you running determines what ply tire should be on the trailer. My shorelander has 6 ply tires for my 182TS Crestliner. My fenders are frame mounted on my Shorelander so if I had the wrong size tire it is possible it could rub on bumps.

Does your trailer have leaf springs? If it does you should probably find smaller tires but if it doesn’t, there shouldn’t be anything to worry about. Unless the side walls rub on something…

It’s a 1990 16′ Alumacraft Classic 16 with a 40hp. The trailer has leaf springs. It does not appear that the side walls will rub. The wider tread area has only about 1″ of clearance between the lip of the fender that is welded to the frame.

They should work as long as you have 3 inches for bump clearance from the top of tire to fender. Make sure also with a wider tire, if there is not enough clearance, the outside of fender will not rub outside of tire when you hit a bump.

Tires Plus can order you Trailer tires. I got mine there and had no problem finding what I needed on my Shorelander 17′ boat trailer.

The tires you are replacing are most likely a radial passenger tire? The new 175-80-r13bc if they say p on them are radial passenger tires. The st175-80-r13bc are a special trailer tire. I’m not sure what the od of your new 175-80-r13 are but they should be around 24 inches? I work for Redneck Trailers Supplies, if you want PM me and i can get you some info?
