I took the plunge and have a new boat on order. It is a 1750 Crestliner Fish hawk with a 115 E-TEC. I am wondering what size trolling motor to put on this boat . I have never owned a boat of this size. Thanks for the help.

I had a boat the same size of that one with a 12 volt 55lb. and that did not cut it. You will want a 24 volt system with higher thrust for sure…
April 17, 2010 at 4:15 pm #832134Mine came with a 65# and I upgraded as soon as possible…get a 70# or 80#…24 volt. You won’t regret it…
PM sent…
April 17, 2010 at 4:31 pm #864678I had a 17 1/2 ft Alumcraft Navigator with a 70# trolling motor that did ok but I would get the biggest thrust you can get in a 24 volt motor. I am down sizing to a small 16 ft boat and am putting a 55# 12 volt motor on that which would be way too small for your much bigger size boat.
Thanks, BillApril 17, 2010 at 4:57 pm #86468317 ft lund here with an 80# and it works great. One thing also is to get the 60 inch shaft. Anything shorter and it will come out of the water on mederate wave action.

I’d get one of these in the 80# or higher model.
Can’t agree more… I have a 17.5 Triton (glass) and have the 80 Terrova with the I-Pilot (when it arrives, thanks Wade). It moved my boat pretty good on the St Croix last fall.

It did pretty well then I upgraded to an 80 pound thrust terrova which I now have the I-pilot on. I love that setup…

Yes Exactly, go long, and then go longer!
April 17, 2010 at 8:05 pm #864704I agree with what others have said. I have a 17 ft Lund Tyee and I have the 80 lb Terrova with iPilot and I love it. If you can afford the Terrova 101 get it. As has been on other threads you can turn it down but you cant keep turning it up.

Do not need the 101 lb, you do what four batteries in the boat. To much weight. You will need a bigger motor then a 115 to push them around!!
April 17, 2010 at 11:45 pm #864723i have same boat and had a 74 lb thrust and it had tech problems had oportunity to get a great deal on a 101 36 volt system and it is hands down ten times better that the 74 seems to last longer on the bateries and i can pull my boat around with it in some serious current no problem!
P.S i think i saw one for sale in the classifieds on the site here to for a good price.

I have a 1725 Lund with 82# 24v Motorguide. More power than I’ve needed. However, I have the 60″ shaft and think it’s much too long. I’d much rather have a 50″ shaft. Maybe Motorguide and MinnKota measure the shaft differently?? I do fish some pretty rough waters at times and still think the shaft is much longer than neccessary. Maybe your Lund rides higher than my Explorer.

April 18, 2010 at 1:10 pm #864794The 24 volt and 80 pounds work great on my 17 foot lund.
From JeffApril 19, 2010 at 2:24 am #864923I’ve got the 1850 Raptor with a 70# Powerdrive. On a calm day, it’s more than adequate. However I fish the river and I fish all the time, not just on nice days. River flow and wind challenge that 70# motor. It does it’s job and works, no question.
However with that being said, It on the short list for replacement. I will have a 101# Terrova on the boat sometime soon. I highly recommend the 60″ shaft as well. You’ll love it on the big wave days.
