Learn to use a diamond stone/hone for the bulk of sharpening. And a steel to finish it off and swipe between honings. Both are easy to take along, very efficient and probly the cheaper of all the systems. -Mark

    AccuSharp.

About $10 from Amazon. Fast, compact, and recommended by America’s Test Kitchen.

    Hey, I resemble that remark

I use my accusharp a lot. It literally takes seconds and works as well or better than anything I’ve ever used. $10.00 and it fits in your pocket.

well im not too impressed with my cabelas diamond stone, but I have used Henkles and Chicago steels. I like the Chicago much better. You can feel it grabbing more than the Henkles. -Mark

I am a little nostalgic when it comes sharpening knives. It is a tradition in my family. Saying that Sliderfishin hit the nail on the head. They work great.

Mark, I agree with the importance of learning to use a stone and steel and yes there are big differences among differant brands of steels. I use a Wusthof sharpening steel at home.

Based on this recommendation I purchased one of these sharpeners. I got it last night and quickly did all the knives in the house. All I can say is WOW this sharpener puts a great edge on a knife! Thanks for the recommendation!! Ordered one from Amazon. Its the best $10 I’ve spent in a long time.

I am glad the sharpener is working for you, Tim
The Accusharp works best with very little downward pressure, just drag it slowly and lightly across the blade.

One more thing, don’t listen to a bass guy very often
