naming waypoints

For starters, I am running both a Lowrance 332c and a Humminbird 997SI on my boat and I am planning on transferring all my waypoints to the bird which brings up my main issue. I’ve got over 800 numbered waypoints on my lowrance and probably 200 on the bird. I haven’t looked at the software yet to tranfer my waypoints but how will these be named with the first 200 or so being duplicate numbers? I am also curious as to how some of you guys name your waypoints when you mark a spot in addition to using different icons. I generally just mark the spot with the defaulted number and change up the icons every so often for no real good reason and hope to remember what it was that I marked. For the most part, I haven’t had any problems doing it this way, but I’d like to somehow eventually get these organized. Occasionally when I get into a jumbled area of waypoints, I’ll start naming key spots but its starting to get a little out of hand. thanks for the input

I like to use the date. That way works for me. Normally use the same icon.

I use a feature of the waypoint or a key word that relates to the structure such as:

    : Killroy
    Hardbreak
    Super saddle
    Smallie town
    Stink rock
    Big 46″
    Walleye Deli

So on and so forth. Many times I am trying to remember stuff and a name comes up such as “creek chubby” and it hits me. “Oh ya we nailed them mid summer on creek chubs there.” It helps to some point.

yep, I find myself scrolling over the waypoint to take a look at when I marked the spot, that has been a big help too.
