What is the best thing to spray on Gortex to make it water proof again. Something better than a silicone spray. I have a couple decent pieces of rain gear and would like to try reclaiming them rather than spending money on more expensive rain gear. There has to be a product designed to make it water proof again…Thanks for any help

I’ve used a product called ReviveX. You wash the item in the mashing machine with this stuff and then dry it in the dryer at high heat. It worked well on my gortex rain gear.

Your Gortex is still waterproof but your fabric is probably just getting wetted out. Try a product called Sport-Wash. It rinses completely and doesn’t leave any residue behind. The residue is what causes the DWR (durable water repellent) to not do it job. This product product also works very well on resorting loft to down jackets/blankets and works to keep long under wear wicking properly. You can get it at most Wal-Mart’s and most Scheel’s stores. It’s a little spendy but it works very well.

i think thats for carbon lined clothing like scent-lok.

and i thought goretex was a membrane/liner within the layers of your coat? i didnt know it loses effectiveness unless it was compromised somehow (ripped?)..

Cabelas has a kit that includes a detergent and a spray on after washing prior to drying that I have been using for years – under Gore-Tex restoration that sounds similiar to the above.

    Good luck!

Gore tex boots as a for instance are rated in steps. After so many steps in the boot they will loose there effectiveness. I have a pair of boots like this, the boots look brand new but my feet get wet if I am in and around wetness for the day. I also have a rain suit that is Gortex and the material is not compromized at all and it also gets “soaked” is out in wet weather for extended periods of time. I am excited about trying to reclaim my gear!
