I have a couple of reels with the anti reverse mechanism only working 50% of the time. I have never taken a reel apart and dont want to ruin them cuz I can still use them for casting in the summer. But not very handy for jigging, especially if using 2 rods on the river. Is it an easy fix, or spendy to take them somewhere? Any info would be appreciated! Thanks

Usually in extreme cold weather the anti reverse fails for some unknown reason. I was told by a fellow cold weather fisherman that he took the back cover off the reel, removed the “hard” grease and then refilled it with “reel” hot sauce and he hasnt had a problem since

Sorry I can’t help with an answer but I will be watching because I have the same issue on a few ice reels. It seems like they only work well when they are warm – not great for a “sub-zero” ice reel

I noticed it last summer and I can make it screw up in the house now too. I will try and get it apart without completely destroying it. I really like these reels other than that!

Most likely its a grease issue. Have had it happen many times. Take them apart as far as you dare. Wipe all grease off that you can. Reassemble and fill up with hot sauce.

    Should solve your problem!!!

The grease is most likely your problem has the roller bearing won’t grip because the grease is holding it back. That is if it has an anti-reverse bearing. What kind of reels (model / make) are they? An i can direct you to what exactly needs to be done. It is nothing you can’t do.

As mentioned more than once…hot sauce!

Spray the reel out with WD40 until it looks clean and wipe dry. Apply Quantum Hot Sauce and use year round without a problem.

The reel mentioned hangin’ up even in the house, clean it up the same way before taking somewhere for repair. Dirt might be the enemy in this case.

I have taken them apart and cleaned out the grease best I could and they seem to be running better. Amazingly the one that was done first and lost a little spring in the anti reverse lever works perfect. The second one, after I realized I didnt need to go that far, now runs stiff but at least it wont go backwards. I have no hot sauce at the moment but will it hurt to fish for a day without it?
