Reel Bottom Mapping

I have a couple GPS’s that I would like to equip with the Reel Bottom software. I have a Magellan Meridian Marine, and the RayChart 420. Can anyone tell me if these units are compatable with the Reel Bottom chips or software or whatever it is? Also, anyone with any experience with this software… opinions? I currently own the Navionics Chip… but it seems fairly inaccurate? I heard the Reel Bottom is the way to go. What to do?

What type of Navionics chip is it? Theres a couple different kinds: The MMC (typically used in Lowrance), and the NavChart (which is the one your 420 can use). I’m not sure about Magellan… you may need to contact them.

I believe it’s the NavChart… it’s the newer(1yr+) one that has like 120 lakes or something- regional chip I think they called it. Just seems relatively inaccurate. What’s your experience?

I’ve got the Mille Lacs MMC. For the most part, it seems to be pretty accurate. There are times, though, when its WAY off… but thats due to not locking onto enough satellights (weather issues, position, etc) All-in-all… I’ve been pretty happy with it.

I have “heard” that the Reel Bottom chips/software… is extremely accurate and that is the way to go… have you used their paper maps and pulled coordinates off of there? I did on Leech and they were dead nuts on…

I’ve never used the paper maps (yet). I do have the Lakemaster program. It’s pretty awesome!
I agree… they can be right on. I was amazed at how I was able to troll the edge of a reef last fall up at Mille Lacs. The GPS and map were perfect that night. I just pounded the ‘eyes… while a few other boats were trying to figure out what the heck I was doing.

I have both the Real Bottom chip as well as the Pro Map chip and both are great. I tried the region 10 chip and didn’t like nearly as much.

I was told that the Reel Bottom paper maps are exactly what you see on your GPS… that’s what I’m looking for.

Yup… the Reel Bottom paper maps are the same detail you see on the GPS. It’s unbelievable. Do yourself a favor and get the Reel Bottom Mille Lacs chip. You also get Leech, Gull, White Bear lakes included in with it. All 1ft contours.

    Skeeter,

Mine are for my x15. It would be the same data, just a different style chip. Looks like for the Magellan you need to call 800 707 9971 to see which chip you need. For the 420 you need the Nav-Chart. They run $199. Here’s the link to the one that works with the 420 .

Here are the lakes the Pro Map chip has. Its great for bass fisherman with the Gull, Whitefish and Le Homme Dieu chains.

Is is the same type info as the reel bottom, but as a 3′ contourinstead. Check out this link. Pro Map

Pool 4 is on there, but not nearly as acurate as the lake info.

The Lakemaster Chips are unbelievable. They are upgrading the Pro-Map chip which will include Winni. I am waiting for that upgrade. The Mille Lacs Lake Master if very accurate and is a great tool. They just released a new Pro-Map (3ft contours) of Mille Lacs which is similar to the 1 ft contour map but has some updates and changes. I recommend the new 3 ft contour maps that Lakemaster has come out with. They seem to be VERY accurate.

Getting these on your GPS via a MMC card is the way to go.
