What are you guys using ?

I have been using my Lazer Mag Lite and love it….

But I want to try out the cordless drill version..

I have looked a little on line, but out on the ice I see a lot more options then I see online..

There is a fella out in PA that sells thousands of his invention , the Ice Kicker I..

I look forward to your replys

I bought a ice kicker from Rod Chilcott from PA. He is the guy selling them on E Bay.
I would recommend them to any one.
I called Rod and spoke with him about what I needed for my auger as he has three different types avaliable.

Gander has carried several brands in recent years, including
one that has elastic bands to save your bit in case the drill chuck releases. Some systems just use an oversize disk and the more expensive ones used to have a spring clutch.
The 19.2 volt Craftsman C3 cordless with two handles is a good value for power and you can get a car charger and Lithium batteries–anybody tried these in the cold yet? (Start out with light drill clutch settings to avoid tearing up your gears.) I’ve found a cordless good for 5-6″ dia holes and you can pick up an old hand auger with FLAT BLADES that size at garage sales for $10-15…cuts like butter if you sharpen the blades. Wondering how the hand drills work on larger bits.

made my own,, pretty simple and only took 5 min. Three-quarter inch pipe (I think) half inch rod six inches long, and a welder. also use a 8 inch by 1 inch flat stock for a equipment saver. I can get photo if you like.

    Dave,

It took about 2 days to get it.
I love it. It is quick and easy to install.

Here are the photos, take 8 to 12 inch 3/4in pipe, about a 6in by 1/2in steel rod and weld with approx 4 inches of rod outside of pipe. Drill 3/16 or bigger hole in pipe approx. 2 inches above bottom of pipe(make sure rod is above desired hole position) place flat steel above welded joint(make sure flat is longer than auger size)Attach to drill and auger away. Make sure to fully charge your batteries and keep them warm(most important). A good quality 1/2 inch drill will drill 6-8 holes through 2′ of ice with sharp blades per battery. I would run your drill on low. Running on high causes a little odor to come from your drill. Remember to keep your batteries warm. Good Luck

11/16″ hole saw fits inside a Lazer or Mora…just use the thumb screw that attaches the handle. A hose clamp and a scrap of 1/4″ plywood keeps the auger above the ice should the chuck loosen.

What can I say, it was a quick “experiment” early ice a couple years back with materials on hand…and still working just fine. Total cost under $5, and that’s if you need to buy the hole saw.

Use 6″ or smaller auger with sharp blades, and 8 holes per warm battery in 2′ of ice isn’t a problem.

This is what I ordered a while back but haven’t been able to use it yet. the idea of something like that piece of metal while drilling sort of scares me, looks like a knuckle buster or thigh cutter.

The retainer should spin freely. So there is no worry about cutting yourself with that if that is what you are talking about. I ordered one online and it works great.
    Hope this helps you.
