I am looking a buying a crestliner 1850 fishhawk and have the option of a 140 Johnson 4 stroke or a 150 Suzuki 2 stroke. Which is the better motor? the Suzuki is $ 1500 cheaper. Any input would be appreciated.

Pretty much the same motors, Suzuki makes the Johnson. Both are good motors. I went with the 150 DT on my new rig for 2004.

I have been running a Suzuki Motor for the past 6 years and I can honestly say they have been the BEST Motors I have ever had on any of my rigs. Its a great deal you can buy one cheaper than the Johnson..The Dealer I was talking with wants to sell me a Johnson cause the Suzuki is 2000.00 more.

Good luck on what ever you decide.

    Tom,

You are comparing a 2-stroke with a 4-stroke which are very different engines. I think it is like comparing apples to oranges although they both get you from point A to point B and will be probably be very reliable. You can read forever about the pro/cons of them on many different fishing forums. It all depends on “your” wants and needs as to which engine to choose.

Last year I had to go from a 2-stroke to a 4-stroke just because of the reduced smell of engine fumes. It turns out that the 4-stroke is very quiet at slow speeds and just nice to be around. EFI is also very good for cold weather running.

The bad part is that these engines cost a ton of coins.

I thought Suzuki was making the Johnson and Evinrude four strokes. Am I wrong about this? For an extra $1500 I’d definitely get the four stroke. No oil to mess around with, better fuel economy, and quiet.

You may have a suprize down the road when you try to trade in your two stroke…I think that the dealers will not be giving good trade in allowances on two stroke motors after 2006 emission standards kick in…

    Just a thought.

Boone, You are right. Johnson 4 strokes are made by Suzuki but will cost you less.

Thanks for all the input. Found some information last night, did some reading and decided on the 4 stroke. Looking forward to getting the new boat broke in.

I picked up a 2003 140 Suzuki four stroke last year and I can say I love it. Now that the 2-stoke is gone, even the wife wants to go fishing.
