Well the trans on my new lazer pro bit the dust this morning luckily it was on the last hole needed to setup. Ended up with 9 perch and 20 inch eye so it wasnt all bad. But anybody know what kind of a treat getting my auger repaired will be???

It was cutting like a champ and when it broke through must have caught a little bit and bang. i pulled it up hit the throttle and the auger did not spin and the trans was making some nasty grinding and clunking noises. It didnt jerk hard or anything but you can turn the auger bit by hand and there is no gear to gear sound like there was before.

    Thanks for the info

Sounds like you lost a couple teeth on one of the gears. That is a rare one indeed. Let us know how SM handles the issue for you.

Must be from all that solo power.

I know the Solo is cranking out a lot more torque than the Techumsehs, no doubt about it.

Well i was tinkering with it a little now that its in a warm house and i dont know if it took teeth off a gear when you turn the bit there is no sound or binding like there should be with stripped teeth i may have a sheared input or output shaft. You dont know how bad i want to tear it down to find out for sure but i,ll refrain til i know exactly whats going to be done. It,s buggin the heck outta me.

And believe me i know the solo is producing more torque i ran a tecumseh powered lazer a day before i ran mine and there is no comparison.

You should get a badge or something for that! Like I said… transmission issues are pretty rare on augers.

I had the same issue with my Mag 2000 when I first bought it a year ago . It went due to lack of grease on the gears, sent it up late fall and they took care of it.

Good to hear that they got you taken care of quickly. And who’s going to turn down the spare recoil? That was a nice touch.

Brain fart. There’s another IDO guy on here that had issues with a recoil in the last couple days. SM sent him a new one and asked for his old one back so they could repair it and send it back out to him so he would have a spare. My bad. I jumbled up the threads in my head.

Yeah, the recoils really don’t seem to be a big issue… and it can be fixed with a little wd40 in a few minutes. I did mine and it has worked flawlessly since.

I used 3 in 1 oil and it work great. but it does basically the same thing as wd40

Yeah, anything to break up that thicker grease will get the job done. I would expect Strikemaster will have this little issue worked out on any new shipments of augers quickly if they haven’t already done so.

I wouldnt expect any less from strikemaster now that they are aware of the issue.

Well srikemaster recieved my auger wednesday and at 2 this afternoon it arrived at my house ready to rock. They replaced the gears according to the packing slip. Now i can get back to the task of making swiss cheese.
