I got some pricing on a couple of Explorers today. Does this add up?

16SS with Yamaha 4-stroke 75 and Trailmaster custom trailer: $15,390

16 tiller with Yamaha 4-stroke 60 and same trailer: $13,995

15 hp and SS for $1,395? What don’t I understand?

    Thanks,

    Jeff

The higher price boat is a SS model so it has a console, controlls and cables. Plus a bigger engine. Only natural for it to cost more. Thanks, Bill

    Bill,

I think it should be a greater difference. Is that amount right for that difference? I didn’t clarify that.

I would guess that he got a better deal on the 75 hp motors than he normally would of as he bought more of them than he did the 60 hp motors. That size motor is more popular. Thats my guess. Thanks, Bill

    The best thing to do….

    Ask for clarification…

An honest sales staff will have no problem telling you the facts….

usually one can tell when they are getting the facts vs. the BS….

that way you can make the call !!

Buying a new boat is very similar to buying a car. It pays to shop around. I’ve been shopping for a new boat this winter and have been amazed at the price differences between dealers.

One thing to look for when shopping for boats – the year on the motor. Right now, some marine shops will be selling “new” 2003 motors. They are new, but it will hurt a guy a little at resale. Be sure the motors you get are 2004, or that the price is adjusted, at least slightly. A good dealer will be upfront about this in the first place.

Definately shop around. Due to sales volume (and some other factors) some dealers can afford to got much lower on prices than others. Please remember that the lowest price is NOT always the best deal. Service, relationship, close to home for repairs/service, etc. should be considered.

Finally, when rigging a new boat, compare the dealer’s price quotes fully rigged compared to rigging yourself. Your often better off rigging yourself in terms of overall cost. However, having the dealer rig for you allows you to put the total cost of all the electronics, etc. into a loan (if you get a boat loan). Each buyer’s situation is different.

Good luck to all who are having fun buying a new/used boat this year.

I’m dealing with Bob’s in Dekalb IL. The price for the accessories (locator, TM, etc.) are equal to most anywhere else I can buy them. The difference is Bob’s includes the rigging. I’m going back in when I get a chance to discuss everything soon.

I don’t think I’m going to pull the trigger this year, but next for sure. Although, momma said to go ahead because her employer (Uncle Sam) approved $15k in school loan reimbursement today. She gets $3k for 5 years and wants to contribute to the boat fund.
