I just got a Jiffy 3hp auger that is about 6-7 years old. Can anyone tell me what the right gas/oil mixture should be.
It is old enough where I can still adjust the carb idle.
    Thanks

You really cant go wrong at 24 to 1 . Thats what my new one requires. Thats a lot of oil in the gas, and if your like me a little extra shot of oil wont destroy your motor, Just dont over do it. Or youll foul plugs fast.

What I do is buy the little bottles of Jiffy oil that are pre-measured to mix with one gallon of gas. As a rule, always use high octane gas, as most small engines are designed to run on it. You’ll thank yourself later when you haven’t fouled a plug, and it starts reliabley. Also, if you use the Jiffy oil, it has fuel stabilizer built right in, so it’s a win win situation all the way around. If you can’t find jiffy oil, I’ve had real good luck with Johnsered oil in the past. That also comes in pre-measured containers, but for 50:1, so only add half the gas. The Johsered oil also has fuel stabilizer built right in. If you’re thinking price is a factor…..forget it….because you’ll be hard pressed to use up a gallon of mixed gas in a season if you’re only using it for personal use. One of those little bottles usually runs just a hair under 2 bucks, less than an good jig, so it won’t break the bank.
    hope this helps!!

    That’s good info Marcus…

That’s what I do too. But I save the little bottles, mark them with a permenent marker and refill them with my regular outboard oil that I buy in gallons. A gallon container cost .14 cents and ounce – the little bottles run about .40 cents an ounce. (I’m the first to admit…I’m frugal…some say cheap).
I was surprised to find out this last year that MOST two stroke oils come with a stabilizer already in the oil. This does help the premix motors, but keep in mind if you have a injected two stroke, you still have a gas tank that builds up water.
As I found out last year, when you talk about oils, there’s a BIG can of worms out there! So just forget that I mentioned this!

The high octaine is good info too. I wasn’t a believer in this until again, last summer in researching oils, I found that gas isn’t made the same as it was years ago. I can’t find the website, but it explain in far too tecky words for me – why gas gets “old” faster than it use to.

    My 4 cents worth…

Get some Amsoil 2 cycle oil and you won’t have to worry about the right mix for any 2 cycle engine you own.I’ve used it for years and love it.Mike

Bad idea. 2-stroke oils for air cooled vs water cooled engines are not the same.

Good point Mr. Gainni! I never thought of that and I’ve been doing this for years…although I won’t be recommending it any more. Sometimes I am lucky (that I haven’t burned up something!)
