Anyone run one of the Yamaha 225 HPDI motors on a Ranger 620?? If so how is the performance?
A friend of mine is looking into buying a new boat and has some concerns about the loss of performance between the HPDI and the Evinrude or Mercury.
I currently run a 620 with the Ox66 225 Vmax and love it.
    Thanks

I don’t know about the 225, but my partner has a 200 hpdi on his Skeeter and wouldn’t trade it for the world. He is 2 mph slower than the same boat with a VMAX, so not a noticeable drop off by any means. I’m actually debating about buying a 619 and I would put a 200 HPDI VMAX on it.

I run a the 620 DVS with the 2003 225 HPDI. I love the setup. Lots of power, good top-end, very reliable. The 2003 225 HPDI had a few issues with oil consumption but Yamaha took care of very quicly. These are not an issue on the 2004. I think you will be very glad you went with that motor. I have only good things to say about it

I am not sponored by Yamaha either, just love the motor!

    Buckshot –

On the 620’s for 2004 Ranger has increased the transom to 25″ and the Fourstroke F225 is the only option (with the longer shaft) to max out the HP. As for the loss of performance – not in the 225 HP class. Pricing was also better on boats rigged w/ Yamaha.

    I have a 2002 – 200 VMAX HPDI on a 619 – 351 hours with 3 plug changes and 2 lower unit fluid changes, nothing else!

I absolutely love the engine – the most reliable engine I have ever owned. I am ordering my 2004 boat and I will have Yamaha’s on the back once again!
