Outboard problem

Yesterday I posted having troubles with my motor thinking it was fouled plugs. I dryed all the plugs off and thought I was good to go. This morning it started up fine and seemed to idle okay. I let it warm up 5 minutes before taking off. When I throttled up it just bogged down and eventually it would get to about 4000 rpm’s and that was it. I limped around the whole day wondering what the problem was. Is it not getting enough gas? Is the choke stuck open? Is there some other major problem that I need to address? No alarms went off so i have to figure some sort of gas issue. Any help would be awesome, Dan. By the way I have a Evinrude 115 intruder.

Dan, I would check that gas line from tank to motor, sure sounds like an air infiltration to me.

Take a look at the gas filter. It maybe partly plugged. Just a thought.

Plugs are cheap and easy, I wouldn’t spend a lot without replacing them first.

I really appreciate the replies but I’m engine handicaped if you know what I mean .How would I know if air is in the gas line or where should I look for the fuel filter. I can change the plugs i guess to start but what is the rational behind it. can one plug or multiple plugs go bad? Will i hurt the motor if i idle around? Thank you for the replies, Dan

Dan if your pressure bulb is pumped up fairly hard and you find it fails to keep that hardness, you probably got leakage. It don’t take but just a little difference in the feel of the bulb. Fairly cheap to buy a new one ,and if that doesn’t solve the problem, return it.

Dan take a look in your manual and that may help you or just go to your Evinrude dealer and buy the parts that you need. When you are there you can always just ask a few question about you motor for things to do before you take it in for repairs. You just don’t know- – they maybe helpful to you.

The rational behind replacing the spark plugs is that an engine can run just fine at idle, but as the carbs open and more air/fuel enter the combustion chambers a weak spark can be blown out. A bad coil can also cause this but since your engine has four of them (one for each plug), I doubt that that’s the problem.

Now there’s also an spark advance linkage I beleive that could cause that problem but I don’t know how to trouble shoot that.

Weak fuel pump? Before I spent a bunch of time and money guessing I would bring it in to a shop that you trust.

I had a similar problem with my 115 Mercury this summer. I replaced the plugs and filter and it ran like a champ. The other thing it could be is air getting in the fuel line. Check the line witht he bulb and make sure there aren’t any leaks. Good luck.

I would check for an air leak in the line. That is a classic example of the kind of problem that causes.
