Choke problem?

I have a 115 Evinrude v4 intruder. I think the choke is stuck open. It starts fine but idles rough and boggs down when i throttle up. It started 2 days ago when i had a hard time starting it and i think i flooded it. I know its getting enough gas because you can smell it. Can I fix this myself and can any body lead me in the right direction. I’m fairly mechanically able but if its a major take apart i will stay away from it. Thanks, Dan

It could be that a plug is wet/fouled from the motor being flooded the other day. Pull the plugs and see if they look ok, and if not, replace or at least clean and dry them and see if that helps.

An easy, inexpensive thing to look at before digging deeper.

    Good luck.

    After doing Bassn Dan’s suggestion.

Check the choke linkage. Have one person operate the choke and the other at the engine to see if everything is moving properly.

I don’t recall if the motor has an electric choke…if it does, you’ll have to look down the carb throats to see if there’s a spray of fuel or in the case of the older butterfly chokes, see if they are operating correcly.

Thanks for the quick replies, I pulled the plugs and the bottom 2 were soaking wet. I dried them off so hopefully that is the answer. I’m fairly confident that was the problem. Thanks again, Dan
