Has anyone tried the Gulp for ice fishing? I’ve seen it at Gander, Cabelas, etc but haven’t tried it.

    Mike,

I’ve used it but not for ice fishing yet. I hammered some large mouth bass with it this summer. I forgot what they called that one, it was like a nightcrawler with the twist tail… Fished it a couple different ways but actually had the most success on a slip bobber, fishing the current from an incoming stream on Battle Lake. Just double hooked it it the middle of the body and let it wiggle around under the slip bobber, flowing in the current a bit. The bass loved it. I also lindy rigged it on Spirit one day and got some smaller walleye.

One thing I would stress is treat it more like live bait. Don’t leave the product exposed to air or sun. Zip the bag/close the jar and keep it in the shade. Obviously not as much of a problem in winter!

I would think the smaller grubs might work for ice fishing. GULP has one hell of a scent to it and it is supposed to permeate the surrounding water more readily that other scented baits. If you try it, let us know how it does under the ice please.

Mike, before they put it in Gulp! jars it was called Power Naturals.Different names but the same product.
I really like the maggots in the natural white color. They make multiple colors but I’ve only used the natural color.I’ve also used the earthworms under the ice but no luck. The Gulp! grubs are way to big,if you buy these you need to cut/tear them in half.Somedays they do better than live bait and vise versa. If you want me to send you a jar to try let me know.Hope this helps.

Thanks Ryan. I’ll just pick up a bottle. It would probably cost more to mail one, but I appreciate the offer.

I used Gulp maggots on Roy lake near Nisswa. It was the middle of the day and we just wanted to get out on the ice (my wife’s first time ice fishing) so we had nothing but perch but they loved them and they stay on the hook in great condition for about a dozen fish. My dad was up on Red Lake last week catching slabs and he said they worked great. They were about on par with waxies but stay on the hook a lot better. I suppose more time in the water means more fish.
