I dropped what for me is a lot of cash last year on two batteries for my lund trolling motories. I got the Dual Pro Lightning series. Want to know the best way to store them in cold weather. obviously on want to keep them charged but do i keep my onboard charger plugged in all the time?? should i just plug it in once a month for a couple hours. These are AGM type batteries. Thanks

My on board charger says i can keep my batteries plugged in 100% of the time….

This year I pulled my starter motor battery because it isn’t hooked up to the charger, but, the two trolling motor batteries are hooked up and i’m leaving them in the boat plugged in…

I have three Trolling Thunder batteries in my Warrior that are now 5 or 6 years old. They have never been removed. Just only to swap boats. I leave them in the boat all winter in cold/frozen storage no charger attached. I fish on open water over 125 days a year and these batteries have been charged maybe 500 times. The spec sheet says they will last 3-5 years with an 8 year service life expected.I have used a Professional Mariner onboard charger for over 10 years. I wouldn’t recommend charging them when they are frozen.

I hit the trim switch to raise the motor in the spring and have power. I’ll charge them before I take her to the lake.

Flooded lead acid batteries might last two years. I used to swap them out after one and a half seasons. That included taking them in for the winter and giving them periodic charges.
