Ok guys I looked at an E-Tec outboard by Evenrude today at the sports show. I was kind of impressed with the info the sales and tech gave me. Does anyone have any info on them.

There was a short write up about them in this month’s issue of Bass and Walleye Boats. From what I read, there is no break-in period for them. Computer evidently controls things there. So far I’m interested, but I’d have to wait to see if all the “bugs” are worked out.
January 10, 2004 at 12:12 pm #288097From what I read there prefomance sounds great but like HERB i will wait and see if the bugs are worked out. I did check with a dealer on the price and a 40 tiller rounds around 5500 550 just for the tiller handle little high
January 10, 2004 at 12:19 pm #288098Forest Lake motor sports quoted me $4690 for a 40 and $5281 for a 50.
I talked to the tech that was there. He said that the computer automatically adjusts the oil for the 10 hour breakin period. he asked me if I liked to troll and told me that the RPMS can be adjusted up or down 200 without affecting the motor. At 500 rpms you can troll real slow.
going to search the net for more info/complaintsJanuary 10, 2004 at 12:43 pm #288101wooooo this is definily going to turn heads
About 40 percent of the Evinrude line incorporates E-TEC, and if you buy one during boat show season (December 27 to April 15), you?ll get an unheard of seven-year warranty.January 10, 2004 at 1:56 pm #288106Thanks Chappy do you happen to have a phone number to call them?

I’m giving Smittys a call here in a little while to give them a shotJanuary 10, 2004 at 3:32 pm #288110Talk to Kenny at Smitty’s Marine Chappy. 1-651-345-3990. Nates boat was just ordered yesterday and it coming with a new E-Tec on it with the American stripes. Thanks, Bill
January 10, 2004 at 11:43 pm #288127B&W Boats mag listed the 40, 50, 60, 75, and 90hp as this years models. Here are the base prices respectively;
4988.00, 6831.00, 7438.00, 8306.00, and 8950.00. Only the 75 and 90hp models are 3 cyl.January 11, 2004 at 11:16 am #288151guys does that include tiller handle.the quote i got was with it becouse its a option not standard?
January 11, 2004 at 12:02 pm #288154I would have to say no on the tiller handle question. The footnote in the mag said these were base prices for the “least expensive models”.
January 11, 2004 at 4:10 pm #288168Thanks for the aritcals and Pic. I think it is the way I am going to go.
Just doesn’t make sense to buy a used 4 stroke when I can spent 6or 700 more and get a new motor with a 7 year warrantee.
January 11, 2004 at 4:19 pm #288171Chappy, you’re right about the 7 year warranty. I only got one year on my Mercury motor, just missed the 3 year deal!
I would say if someone’s planning to get one, be SURE to get it during that special warranty period. That makes for nice peace of mind. I keep hearing good things about Smitty’s too. Please let us know how your experience goes there and with the motor.
Thanks!
Wade

I called Kenny and told him you told me to call.
He gave me a great price for my trade. I will be picking it up in a week or 2. Hopefully the weather will be warm enough to give it a try in Redwing on the way home.
Thanks for the tip.January 21, 2004 at 2:12 am #289399Smittys Marine is a great place to shop. Great prices.
Thanks, BillJanuary 30, 2004 at 8:04 pm #290896OK OK!!!!!!!!!! enough with the cold.

:Wow what a big prop for a 40 horse. 13 3/4″
Stopped at the gas station to put some gas in the boat. When went inside to pay, She says” just the $9″. I asked her if the fish were biting. She started explaining where they were biting on Pepin. At that moment she looked out the window and saw the boat. She said “your not going out in the boat are you”
I said ” Is there a problem” Gotta good laugh on that one.
Come on warm weather!!!!!!!!!!nordPosts: 738February 3, 2004 at 3:17 pm #291294Chappy, Al’s in Rochester had a forty in the tank to run as a Demo. There was a whole lot of head shaking going on with that motar as far as I was concerned.
February 3, 2004 at 4:15 pm #291301I was talking about these motors to Kenny [Smitty] at the Sport show and it sounds like this is going to be the engine of the future. They are like a car motor in ways. No service required either for the first 3 years or 300 hours which ever comes first. Thanks, Bill
February 3, 2004 at 10:43 pm #291362I saw the shaking too and when I asked about it they stated that once it is in the water and gets some resisence on it that it smooths right out.
