Looking at buying a boat. I know most of you are Ranger / Skeeter guys and I would love one but the wallet doesn’t come open that far.

    I am looking at a 2006 177 Triton with a 150 Marcury Opt with < 50 hours. It was a non-current purchased in 2008.

Any thoughts about the Triton line? Only one issue it is 300+ miles away so trying to research as much as possible before I possibly head out.

I had heard that there was hull issues in the early 2000’s but I believe that had more to do with the ride. I think that would be a nice ride to have but don’t have many hours ride time in them. I do know someone who has a larger one around that year and loves it.

    I think they’re a great boat, I wouldn’t hesitate for a minute if it’s what you’re looking for!

I was also looking at this boat…

Very Very nice rig…If I was not holding out for a 20′ boat I would not have hesitated for a second on this boat.

Take it out for a ride, take it to a Merc service center and have them put the Opti Max on the puter to see it’s history…

    Sweet Ride !!

I saw one on WC (maybe even the one you are looking at). My question is a 150 going to be strong enough for that glass boat? I would add a SS prop. My 2 cents

p.s. Looks like a great deal

I was talking to a guy today about the Triton walleye boats. If you are talking aluminum I was told its the crestliner hull with tritons interior. I don’t know of anything wrong with that just sharing a bit about the lineage of the boats.

I have a triton 215X and I just love the boat. I fish erie and green bay and just love the ride. I have a buddy that has a 177 and its a well made boat. lots of room and storage and can handle a good walleye chop. I think triton are also finished on the inside very well meaning they didnt cut corners and use cheap stuff. I would for sure buy another triton.

Like BKS, I got a 215X this spring for use on Lake Superior and couldn’t be happier. Mine is a 2005 powered by an Optimax 225 and an 8 hp kicker. Quality is top notch for both the boat and trailer. I found mine over 1,000 miles away so I know what you’re going through. I don’t know the 177, but the big brother is great big-water boat. The ride is dry and the boat is solid. Tons of storage, lots of fuel capacity and very fast for its size. I don’t think you can go wrong with a Triton. jdc

My buddy’s father has the 177 or 189 (can’t remember), but I do know that is has a 150 Carbed motor. That boats rips hard and fast with that motor. Great boat, great ride, fast ride. Super smooth and a very NICE interior. Basically, same rig as the Ranger for floor plan, hull design, whatnot.
You’ll love the nice cushy seats on a cruise in rough water.

If I recall correctly, Earl Benz originall worked for Ranger, then went on his own???

The 177 is a nice rig. For $21K, appears like a pretty good deal. That motor alone is about $16k.

If you go look at the boat, check the entire hull carefully for any gel coat cracking. Pay close attention to the transom area both inside and outside of the splaswell area. Bring a floor creeper and flashlight. Take a real good look at the bottom side. If that all checks out, take it for a spin. If it has the smartcraft guages, tab through the readings and verify the number of hours, ect.

I like this size glass boat. Single axel trailer and shorter overall length are nice for tucking it into the garage. Honestly, if this deal was out there when I was shopping 2 years ago, I would go take a look. Good luck!

Dam good… If I can find a few $ laying around I take your offer.

I have a few consulting checks coming in soon so hopefully you still have them.
