If you have a co-pilot on your Terrova, does it have to be removed for the i-pilot to work? I know the auto pilot has to be replaced in the head of the trolling motor, but do I have to do anything with the co-pilot on the side plate?
Thanks

Sorry didn’t see the tread above.
I noticed in looking at i-Pilot at the store that the remote beeps when you press a button. I understand that it is a helpful feature, just wondering if you can turn beeps off?
Thanks,
KT

Direct from the manual for the Terrova:
“i-Pilot will override all CoPilot functionality.”
Direct from the manual for PowerDrive V2:
“If a CoPilot is installed, it must be removed as follows…”
Either way, you won’t be using the CoPilot anymore….which is no big deal since i-Pilot has all of the basic CoPilot features built in.

There are two different audio modes that can be switched between (mode 1 and 2). Mode 2 beeps in a variety of ways when a wide variety of things happen; mode 1 beeps under only a limited set of circumstances.
As far as I can tell, there is no user-controlled way to turn the sound off completely.
On the V-2, is there a way to turn off the I-Pilot and use the foot pedal? Example: When you are using two jig poles and following an irregular break line.
No. This is direct from the manual:
“Once i-Pilot is installed the PowerDrive V2 foot pedal cannot be used again unless the i-Pilot is fully uninstalled”
The only ways to have access to both the pedal function and the i-Pilot are to rig it on a Terrova or a Riptide ST.
Thanks for the information. I have the V-2 with the copilot, I guess I will not be upgrading. Sure would like that spot lock option but can’t justify changing if it won’t do what I need it to do.
This product looks interesting but I am a skeptic. I have a 101# Minkota Terrova on my 2008 Ranger 620. When I got it, the Terrova’s autopilot would not be able to overcome the momentum of this heavy boat to steer a steady course like it should in winds and/or waves. The motor always fought hard to overcome the boats momentum, thus causing constant over corrections. The motor simply could not keep up. And this is the top thrust motor available !! I am concerned the i-pilot will have the same issues.
Got mine for Christmas…can’t wait to get it installed and try it out on Lake Vermilion…I can think of a number of ways this is going to make things much easier..staying on humps in the middle of Niles, crappie spots in deep water, etc…
Only 86 days till the opener…going to need some practice time prior though.
Come on down to Everts on the river! I’ve been getting in some i-Pilot practice on a weekly basis since Christmas.
When you are setting up a trail do you have to use the co-pilot controls for the trail to be stored. Or can you use the foot pedal to set up the trail?
The i-Pilot must be powered in order to record the trail, which means that the motor must be deployed and the remote active. However, when recording the trail, you can use the pedal (for Terrova….since the pedal is non-functional with PD V2), the remote, or even the big motor or the kicker for power and direction.
Well Jason,
Got mine ordered today and should see it soon at BP here in their new store in Ankeny. Yea!
Thanks for your help in your posts and a whole many others as well. East to West coasts to the Down Under! I had even ran into other systems that are doing the same type of thing but way more cost and not near the support as Minn Kota!
Now I will get some good use out of it and wait for it’s next generation in a few years. I’m upgrading from a 10 year older AP unit.
“Beam Me Up Scottie!”
Jason,
Do you know if the “Trail” recorded is in a liner track of 2 miles or a line from start to finish?
How are they figuring this?

I don’t know if Jason has over looked my question or this thread is warn out but,
Any one have a clue?
Thanks!
Denny O
It is a track that measures two miles long from start to finish. The track can be any shape, can have twists and turns, etc. It is not two miles, “as the crow flies”. Does that help?

Yep Jason that was what I was looking for. I had also wondered what they used for measuring the distance, in other words, ahhhh,,,, realy how / what makes it tick duh I can’t seem to explain myself. What is the raw data used for the calculation?
I don’t know this for sure, but my guess is that there is a set sampling rate at which new points (GPS coords) are written to memory, and one can calculate the distance between each point. Once the sum of all of those small distances between points is equal to 2 miles, then the memory for that particular track is full.
Again, that’s just a guess!
Jason,
Good enough, that was my take as well. THanks!
Now if I can get my supplier to ship mine w/ terrova I will be a happy camper! Once here I’m headed to RedWing! Not coming in as of yet on tomorrows truck, GERRRRRR!!!!!
All righty now!
Got my Terrova 101 US2/IP today! I can’t say enough about the folks at Altoona Bass Pro Shops right now! I was a pain in there rears. And they came through jumping hoops over their distribution center! It came straight from the MinnKota to Altoona by FedX! First one of this config sold by BPS Altoona, and I might think by BPS but don’t know that for sure.
Mounted it this afternoon and had it running in the driveway at the house. Reused the old holes from my previous TM and will tweak it in a little tighter to the boat tomorrow. Got to figure out a way to safely rout the transducer cord out of harm’s way yet. The sonar is a bit old to get a cable to hook-up the US2. Got to wait for the $ to switch the dash unit forward. Boat rewired w/ 6 gauge and a 60 amp breaker.
The remote has a great range!
Think I may have missed the early walleye bite at RedWing, but oh well it’s here now! I’m a happy camper!

Congrats on the new toy!!
Mine should be here any day………..right Wade??

Watch it Mister K. I have a Sam’s Club 3 miles away!!
Now thats funny U 2!
As far as the spot lock, MAN I GOT TO TELL YA! It was Spot On!! Funny though, it showed I was moving 1 to 3 tenths mph, but I could have swarn I was “Spot On!”
Hi Guys I’m new to this site. I just had to tell you all that I installed my I-Pilot yesterday in under 25 minutes. But I did not have to uninstall Auto pilot or co pilot on our pd2v2.It took longer to get the stuff out of the box. Have not gotten a chance to use it yet maybe this weekend. Trying to install an onboard charger now. Just had to add my 2cents worth
We’re sitting at the table this morning and the wife’s reading a musky mag and asks “what’s a I-pilot?”
So I go though the basics and she then asks if I have one, nope I reply and then she says “Why not?”
I tell her I’m waiting for the AP in my 80 Terrova to go out again and then I’ll replace it, she says, “Why wait?”
I had to check if this was the same woman who has repeatedly mentioned I don’t need anymore rods, reels or tackle, yup it was her…hummmm
So after reading this thread, I think I have all my questions answered, except, maybe one or two.
What kind of batteries does the handheld use and what’s expected life on them??
And, is the price on these the same no matter who sells them?
Thanks for the thread.
Al
Edit
Found it.
One CR2450 coin-cell battery (included
I once bought a pair of electronic ear muffs for shooting and they used some battery that wasn’t readily carried by most stores and cost about 5 times as much, so I like to see whether I can find batteries easily and not overly spendy.
Off to Cabela’s tonight..
Appears the Owatonna Cabela’s is out and seems the one in Rogers according to the 800 number is too, anybody know of someplace near Mpls that has one??
I need one for a Terrova 80# unit no CO pilot
