Jiffy Auger HELP!

I have a 6 year old 3 hp Jiffy auger. The first four years it spent it’s life in the basement. Never used. No gas in it.

For the last two years, it’s started ok, but seems like it runs out of gas about the time it gets to the bottom of the hole. Hit the primer a couple times and she’s running again. Vent is open..new gas, new plug.

I had it in twice this year before the ice. Both times when it came back, I would start it, run it at wot and in just a couple minutes maybe less, it would cut out….pump the primer a time or two and off it goes again. They replaced the needle valve and adjusted the carb.

So I would say it’s not getting gas…but why? Any thoughts out there would be appriciated!

I would take the gas line off and see if the gas is flowing though it? Yes, its sounds like its lacking fuel. What if when it stalls out…….let it set for a minute and see if it re-starts again. You might have a small filter in the inlet in the tank you could check for also.

It could also be just a cold blooded SOB…….

put a new diaphram in it. the rubber dries out and they don’t work right. it is a cheap and easy fix…..tom f

I too would try the diaphram and if that doesn’t do it change the fuel line. Lets us know how it turn’s out.

I’ll let you know what happens…and come to think about it…I bet your right about the diaphram…
I had it out on Sunday and could only get one hole cut…and had a heck of a time doing that….
I guess I should check the gas tank a little more often

    Thanks guys!

The diaphram and gas in the tank did it!

Just another follow up…I’ve cut three holes and never gave me a problem.

Three holes doesn’t sound like much, but I’ve never made it to three before…..
    Thanks again!

So true Jake, but my wife started complaining about cutting them after the 5th or 6th hole. I thought I would take it easy on her…

I like the “fine line” quote….much better than the last one…

i agree….i figured i’m much better being an idiot than being a nobody…..or something like that

i just got back down here to winona. fished around roch quite a bit over break. never really caught anything though. the only spot we really got into a lot of nice ones we had to tresspass to get to. then we got caught, , so we didn’t go back…..but i think i might have found a loop hole to get back out there and be at least 90% legal. depends on how badly i want to get into a shouting match with this guy over a couple 12″ sunnies .

so have you been out fishin much? sorry i didn’t make it to your little shin-dig at bayport. but gettin up by noon on new years day was a bit of a strech .

when is this ice gonna melt anyway??

Music to my ears! First time I heard that this year!

Half of Jan is over…next the shortest month, March…time to get ready…
The earlist my dad had a limit of sunnies on his fly rod was March 22nd…here I go dreaming again!

Didn’t miss any fish in the Croix, but some good yakking.

I quit duck hunting for the same reason. I got tired of trying to explain to farmers that they don’t own a county ditch.

Coot’s report on Turtle Lake got me going for some sunnies and crappies. It’s about an hour drive northeast of here. I’m planning on going someplace with Commoncharo this week. I’m going to check out his ice “hotel”

Let me know if they start snapping down there…still up to a trip.

i know you’re just trying to be opptomistic…..but the last time i checked, january had 31 days….todays the 11th, so really it’s just barely 1/3 over……

yes, february is techniqually the shortest month…..but with 2 feet of ice on top of all the open water…..and nothing but a stinkin hand auger …..i have a feeling it could be the longest shortest month out there…..

then there’s march, which may go a little faster (with spring break and all )…..but unless your dad was fishing in what ever state that is below iowa , or could cast his fly into and 8″ hole in the ice …….

and what ever happend to that global warming thing……lets start that back up or something…..

oh now look what i’ve done…..got myslef all depressed agian…..

hey, you up for a road trip to lake el salto or something. i’ve got a couple hundred paso’s layin around somewhere
