I am in the market for a decent easy to use GPS for hunting. Doesnt have to be top of the line or to fancy. Basically want to be able to see my trails and also be able to save trails and waypoints.

What ones should i be looking at and about what are they running for price right now??

    Thanks for the help

Be sure you get one with a good attenna. Thick tree limbs can keep the cheap units from catching enough signal. If you hunt early in the fall, the leaves can give you even more problems with reception. I like the digital compass in mine, it shows the direction that the unit is facing without having to move a few feet (like my old one).

i vote for the lowrance ifinder series. i have the h20C, but theres an expedition, and a hunter series too.

i like mine a lot! just pop in a chip and u are on your way. its got a huge screen, and the lakemaster chips are very detailed, i wont go deer hunting without mine. plus ive had nothing but great customer service from lowrance.

I have a lowrance H20 and just upgraded to the H20C and has worked for me where I hunt, I also know there is a new chip out that shows all of the public, WMA, and ect…land for hunting. I would shoot Wade Kuehl a pm as he would definitly get you pointed in the right direction (no pun intended)

Do you guys use the H2OC units in your boats as well or use a fixed marine GPS unit? Don’t have a GPS in the boat and am wondering if this unit would serve for both hunting and open water use? Lot of Canada LOW fishing in addition to MN lakes.

    Thanks

I have mine mounted in the boat. It works fine, but when funds allow, I will definitely be getting something with a bigger screen.

I have the Ifinder HuntC, Works pretty good for hunting I take it out in the boat and ice fishing every time i go. Doesnt work the greatest for seeing where u are on the water or in the woods with the basic map. The price is higher then most also. If i could switch i would go for the higher priced Bushnell Onix 400 with satelite imaging. it really lets u know where u are without the brain pain 500 bux tho worth it if u hunt alot of land Onix 400 GPS

I would strongly recommend a Garmin Map CSX as a handheld. I have this unit and it is very easy to use. You can buy map chips for it for more detail. I use it for everything outdoors.

heck yeah, anytime im doing anything outdoors, i have it with me. for new water/woods especially. i dont have a mount for mine, but i know ram makes a nice one, and the power cord fits in it too..
the only thing i did to mine, was to add and ‘invisible shield’ to it. its that plastic screen protector that you squeegee on like aftermarket window tint for your car.

I have my ifinder on my boat. The screen is the only thing I don’t like. It is too small to give you much spot on the spot detail and your trails will get tough to see around. But I can find a mid lake hump, I can see how fast I am going, I can fish my summer spots during ice season. I went from no GPS to all of these good things to know for just over a hundred bucks. I took it to Red Wing a couple years ago and my buddies rig who had no gps had all of that too temporarily. I am drooling over the new birds and side scan but it’ll have to wait for now.
