I borrowed this pic from Julia Davis, who snapped it at today’s MWC weigh-in on Green Bay and posted it over on Walleye Central.

The only good thing about this picture is that the two guys in that Tracker lived to tell about it.

Here’s the update, again from Julia Davis on Walleye Central:

“…the Tracker Tundra was raised with airbags and then pumped out and towed to the ramp last night. After a quick inspection it was clear that the problem was the transom. Cracks allowed water in at a speed that the bilge pumps could not keep up with. “I’m just glad we were able to get in yesterday. Once we got off plane it really started filling up fast”, said Steve. “It’s in the hands of the insurance people now”, he added.”

Amazing! I thought in the year 2009 boats didn’t actually sink.

Glad your back Kirt, no fun ripping on you when you’re gone.

Not meaning to add fuel to the fire but I have actually witnessed multiple Tundra’s with cracked transoms over the last 5 years.

It pays to be an informed consumer..

That boat won’t actually sink. Pretty typical scenario. The boat will fill with water and capsize to the heavy side of the boat. In this case to the side of the kicker. Been there!

Now, I’m told Rangers are designed for level upright flotation in this situation. But I don’t really want to test that out!!!

Confused…then why did they have to raise it with air bags?

They generally use the air bags to get the boat rolled back over.

Is there some inherent liablity on the manufacturer? I’ve also “heard” this for years. Not trying to bash, just makes me wonder “out loud”.

Can you say Cracker Tracker…. A buddy of mine had one of the Trackers that looked just like the ones that the Parson’s run. It seemed like his was getting the transom fixed more often than he was able to fish in it. He had it done 2 – 3 times in the 3 years he had the boat. It was an awesome looking boat, but the nickname Cracker Tracker wasn’t too flattering.
