Line Choice

Recently I purchased some PowerPro for my lowprofile baitcaster. Now I am second guessing myself on if I purchased the right thing. It was 20lb test 6lb diameter. Will this work on my baitcaster or should have I bought heavier line. Any input, or past experiences with this size line would be appreciated. I just don’t want to waster the line and then have problems with it all the time.
    Thanks

What type of presentation are you using that rod/reel for?

i usually use it for casting in weeds with topwaters for northern and bass, as well as smaller spinner and rapalas.

That is exactly what I use on my baitcaster. Many will hate PowerPro, but for me it’s good. It needs to be “broken in” for the first few hundred casts, but then should be great. Expect some discoloed fingers as the color comes off.

I like power pro a lot, seems to work ok for me, but I have usually run it for trolling reels. I’m sure that it will work well for you.. Depending on what you are fishing with and what sort of cover, etc, sometimes guys will use heavier line to avoid such a thin diameter line digging into the spool and causing problems.. Like 40 or 50# pp just to give it some diameter. depends on what you need it for and how you are fishing it i guess…

Should have bought heavier line – 10lb to 14lb diameter works better on bait casters

You can use the smaller line on a spinning rod and cast a mile.

I agee with what grouse dog said get some bigger diameter for your baitcasters and keep the small stuff for your spinning reels. I use power pro on all my reels and couldn’t be more pleased. If your worried about wasting it just put it back on the original spool. You wont get the twist when you put it back on a reel. Another good thing about PP is that you can spool it on backwards after the line gets frayed or worn out. I uaually get 1 really good season out of a spool. Hopefully this helps, Dan

You should go with a heavier strength, larger diameter line for your baitcaster. I use line in the 16 pound diameter class, 65 pound test, for my topwater baitcasters.

I run 30 lb PP on my low profile and works great. This is mostly for cranking eyes so I had to stay as small diameter as possable. I had problems myself with 20 lb but moving up to 30 did the trick!! If line drag is not an issue I would use the 55 or 65. You will see more line life out of the 65 but your diameter is getting up there!
