Anybody ever used one of these? They are made in Cadott,wi. I was looking at getting a boat, but thinking maybe a canoe would be better suited for me now, since im in college and might not have room to park a boat next year. And boats require more money. I found one of these canoes for sale with a square back, that i could mount my 40lb. thrust minn kota on. Its 12′ 9″, so i was hoping it might fit in the box of my s10 still. If anybody has ever used one of these, or just has opinions about canoe fishing throw in your 2 cents.

I haven’t used one of those, but I have a Castle Craft Sportspal canoe, squareback 15’3″ that I am looking to sell. It is on a Trailex aluminum trailer. I either use a 55# thrust Minn Kota or a 3 hp Nissan outboard, according to which lake I am fishing. Any or all of this rig is for sale as I’ll be moving to Germany this fall and won’t be able to use it and don’t want to ship it anyway. I use the canoe on cooling lakes (perched lakes) in Illinois. It’s very stable. You can climb in and out, overthe side and it won’t flip and it’s unsinkable due to the flotation foam lining the interior. Look them up at Castle Craft.com. [email protected]

I’ve never been in a golden hawk, mine is a radisson 14′ foam lined incredibly light yet wide and deep, its made for hunting and comes with a motor mount up to 30 lbs is safe. I use mine for the vermillion river near me to access places other in boats just can’t get to, with my 55lb thrust trolling motor it actually leaves a cool wake. I enjoy the solitude of it yet have never felt unsafe either, its not tippy…..very stable

For me the clamp on side motor mount on a regular canoe is far more comfortable than a square back. The side mount puts the motor right behind your left arm where you can easily reach it with out twisting around. I have fished a lot out of a canoe in the BWCA, but never because I preferred it. Safety, boat control, space, comfort are much better in even a car topper size 14′ fishing boat.

My Step Uncle is the owner of GH canoes, they are awesome canoes i currently have a yellow 12 footer affectionately dubbed the banana boat. I plan on getting a square back as well.
The banana has survived many a trips down the Chippewa and Red Cedar on low and high water, they are also extremely light come time to portage.

Well I got it, do you need to register a 12′ 9″ canoe? And if so, how do you do it? DNR website doesnt seem to specify for canoes, but it must be somewhere.

No need to register canoes in the state of wisconsin until you put a trolling motor on it. DNR requires propelled canoes and sailboats to be registered tho.

yeah…. I have a trolling motor for it, so thats why I asked. I guess I can just register it like a boat, but you don’t have to get a title if its under 16 feet. Lasts for 3 years, 20 bucks. Does anyone know if you need the lettering and numbers like you do on a boat though, or just the sticker? I’m assuming they just send it to you in the mail.

I do believe that if you fish from it ,it has the be registered…with numbers, just like a boat
You should call a DNR service center to find out for sure.
